Former North Springs Principal Mourned

Peter Zervakos, a former Sandy Springs principal, died March 17.

Peter Zervakos, a former principal at North Springs Charter High School in Sandy Springs and Northview High School in Duluth, died last Sunday.

According to The Peter Zervakos Foundation website, he battled a neurological degenerative disease called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease for three years. He was 55-years-old.

In addition serving as principal at the two high schools, Zervakos was band director at Milton and Roswell High Schools.

In 2008, he told NorthFulton.com that he became a principal to help guide decisions that influenced the arts. He had become frustrated as a music teacher because of decisions that affected the arts negatively, he said.

Zervakos is survived by his wife Sally and three daughters, ages 25, 21 and 19; and a sister Celeste, The Foundation website said.

The funeral was Friday, March 22, at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, located at 2500 Clairmont Road, in Atlanta.
