New Principal Named at Riverwood
Former principal Eddie Echols resigned from the Sandy Springs high school in September, when an internal audit showed financial improprieties.
A new principal has been named at Riverwood International Charter School.
Chris Triolo, principal of a kindergarten through eighth grade magnet school, in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system starts Dec. 12. A community meet and greet is also scheduled for that day.
Triolo arrives from John Motley Morehead Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Academy [known as STEM], in North Carolina. Under his leadership, the school has a waiting list of 750 families, according to Fulton County Schools.
In his previous positions, Triolo was a science teacher and served as a district level science specialist for grades K-12.
Former Riverwood principal Eddie Echols resigned in September when an internal audit showed financial improprieties. Dennis Kostulakos is serving as interim principal.
Riverwood parents learned of the new principal on Tuesday, in a letter from instructional area superintendent Iris Moran.
In her letter Moran said, “Mr. Triolo was selected as Riverwood’s principal because of his ability to establish strong lines of communication with students, staff and stakeholders, as well as his ability to serve as a motivator, role model, and relationship builder.”
The school’s committee of stakeholders include the Governance Board, Parent Teacher Student Association, the Foundation, Student Government Association members, teachers, a school counselor, and central office personnel.
Superintendent Robert Avossa also served in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools before his present position.
