Riverwood Seniors Sign to Play Collegiate Sports

The Sandy Springs students have signed letters of intent and appear poised for success.

 

Five Riverwood International Charter School students have signed early letters of intent for collegiate sports.

Jasmine Wilson, 17, has committed to play lacrosse at Howard University in Washington D.C. for the Bisons as goalie, having played lacrosse for eight years.

  • Jasmine serves as a youth lacrosse referee and coach for Thunderbirds Lacrosse Club. Jasmine has secured numerous awards: First-Team All State; Academic All-American; Member of Georgia National Team One; MVP of the 2012 Georgia High School Girls Varsity All-Star Team; Recipient of the Best Defender Award; and Captain's Award.

Roderick “Ricky” Surum, 17, has been recruited to play baseball as an all-around infielder for the Hokies at Virginia Polytech Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Va.

  • Ricky previously lived in Cape Cod, Ma. and moved to Atlanta to play at East Cobb Baseball. At Riverwood, Ricky received awards such as All-Area 2nd Team Second baseman. 

Kyle Carruthers, 17, is headed to University of North Carolina-Asheville to play  outfielder for the Bulldogs.

  • Kyle's 2012 season batting average was .317, he throws 92MPH from the outfield and runs 60 yards in 6.5 seconds. Kyle is nationally ranked and is the number 10 outfielder in Georgia.

Terry A. McClure, 17, is a 6’2 center-fielder and will take his talents to play for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets next fall.

  • In August, Terry was selected as a member of the 2012 Under Armour National All-American Baseball team, and played on the diamond at Wrigley Field; the event was televised on the Major League Baseball Network.

Devin Vainer, 18, has committed to play baseball with the Polk State College Eagles in suburban Orlando, Fla.

  • Devin's baseball career highlights include assisting with Riverwood’s win in spring of 2012 against Walton High School on their home field as well as summer of 2012 playing for 643DP and having a zero ERA in both the 18U and 17U Perfectgame Tournament. Devin was named Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the year while at Riverwood.
