The Enchanted Closet opened its doors, last weekend, for filming of a segment on “Bus 52,” an online documentary web-series that captures how some people are making a difference in their local communities.

Through donations each year, The Enchanted Closet provides prom dresses to hundreds of disadvantaged high school girls in metro Atlanta. According to the non-profit, more than 3,500 dresses have been provide for proms and special events, since it was formed in 2003. The Enchanted Closet boutique opened in Sandy Springs Plaza in 2010.

“The Enchanted Closet believes that every girl should have the chance to attend her high school prom,” said Bonita Johnson, Enchanted Closet President, in a statement. “Unfortunately, many girls will miss their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because they cannot afford to buy dresses. Their families have to make a choice between household or school expenses or purchasing a dress.”

The four folks behind “Bus 52” are recent college graduates traveling the country in a converted school bus, perhaps in the spirit of the late newsman Charles Kuralt, whose “On the Road” segments captured American hearts.

Donations to the boutique can be made in variety of ways. They hope to outfit 500 girls in dresses and accessories this prom season.

What’s needed?

• New or gently used formal dresses that are clean, in good condition and teen appropriate.

• Prom accessories such as jewelry, handbags, wraps and shoes.

• Gift certificates to restaurants, florists, limos and hair and nail salons.
