The column was picked up first by Gawker. The op-ed went viral with international publications such as Albawaba picking up the item. Haaretz has opined that Adler's sentiment is shared by others.

Adler’s resignation came at the insistence of The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, which also advised him to sell the paper, the story said.

also had strong reaction to Adler’s column.

Joan Pressman commented:

"Shame on Adler, some times "I am sorry" just isn't enough. as an editor he sure as Hell should know the power of the words. whether we voted for Obama or not is not the question. AS if we didn't have enough problems, here comes Adler. Adler may be an editor of small newspaper, but he has gone global with damaging Israeli relations with anyone. Adler does not speak for me. Nor does he speak for many. I am chastising him, (Adler) I am ashamed of him, Adler) but I am not calling for a hit on him. Resign Adler and fade quietly into the background."
