Romney... why do you oppose the Affordable Health Care Act (Obama care) when it was modeled on your plan in Mass. ,the conservative Heritage Foundation Plan and the 1996 Dole plan? What would you replace it with?
How can you propose a 20% tax reduction when to make it revenue neutral you would have to eliminate all tax reductions including charity and the home mortgage tax reduction and that would only cover 4% leaving a 16% balance?
Why do we need a 2 trillion dollar increase in defense spending including two new additional submarines .How will you pay for the proposed increase that the military says is not needed?

Obama why do you shove Obamacare down the throat of America when most people don't want it? Why no budget in 4 years? Why instead of cutting the deficit in half , like you claimed you would, did you add over $1 trillion for each year you were in office to the debt? Why are there 3,621,000 less people employed right now when compared to November 2007 (despite the population increasing by at least 11 million people since then)?

It is a sure bet there will be an actual budget... Obama has not passed a budget yet... He just spends and spends... Did the Federal Government need to grow 25% over the Bush staffing growth. Homeland and the TSA were created under Bush.
Did Obama need to add dozens of new Czars with thousands of new staff?
Did we need tens of thousands do new pages of regulations?
Only if you want to eliminate personal Liberty and control every aspect of of a subjugated people...

small minded: you would really prefer to have a charitable tax credit over a 20% tax reduction? With a 20% tax deduction you can afford to double your charitable donations. That is of course if you are giving for reasons more lofty than a tax deduction. As for the mortgage tax deduction - I would rather be able to sell my house and get rid of my mortgage - but I can't in this horrendous economy. Moreover I would gladly forgo a mortgage tax deduction and be able to keep all of my capital gains on the sale of my house. That will far outstrip the tax deduction. It all comes down to fundamental differences. Conservatives feel that people should be given the right to make their own choices. Liberals like the government telling you what to do with your money. Note, the only reason we have deductions is because the tax code is so onerous we'd all be crushed without deductions. It's like stores that have to offer coupons because their prices are so high. You don't see the dollar store offering coupons. Let the consumer keep his/her hard earned money and have the power to purchase whatever they want with their money - including health care.

President Obama, why do you have so many ideas on how to spend more money and talk little about reducing the deficit? Your idea for
recruiting 100,000 Math and Science teachers" sounds great--if it did not add to the deficit. And we all know that if you taxed all those billionaires and millionaires at higher rates, it would not help significantly in reducing the deficit. So, Mr. President, could you please provide the details on how YOU would reduce the deficit instead of asking Mr. Romney for his details. Because voters want details from BOTH of the candidates.

God help us all if he gets re-elected! Get your heads out of the sand and wake up. This man is NOT the man we need. Romney is a business man and knows how to balance budgets. Romney...Your running mate Paul Ryan said that you and he know how to cut individual tax rates by 20% while not ballooning the deficit. When pressed for how it will be accomplished, Mr. Ryan indicated that he wants Congress to work together in a bi-partisan effort to come to the solution. Mr. Romney, is the real reason you're not telling us your solution because in fact, the MATH DOESN'T WORK and that you want to BLAME THE DEMOCRATS after the "bi"-partisan efforts fail to reach that IMPOSSIBLE solution?
John B

Frank, the reason no one can give the details is because it has to be meted out in congress. Cutting taxes absolutely requires cutting spending as well. Romney nor Ryan can give details because of the Members of Congress who will fight over protecting Indian casinos or spotted owls, etc. It is not impossible - unless we don't cut spending, which clearly we must do. By the way - you and your friends, will always be legally able to pay as much tax as you want. You can give all of your money to taxes. No one will stop you. Think of the people however, who cannot afford their tax bill. It is not that people are greedy and want to keep all of their money. It is that they cannot buy their children new tennis shoes because of the crushing tax burden. My friend has been paying a monthly installment loan on his tax bill since 2008. Can you even imagine that? Obama has done nothing to significantly cut individual tax rates and yet he's doubled our deficit so why not give the tax-cut approach a chance. Clearly what Obama is doing is not working. Can we agree on that?

Oh that's right the last of the losers closed up couple of hours before the debate. Over nine hundred BILLION gone and this failure wants four more years. That is MATH THAT DOESN'T WORK. Seriously though, BO is a community organizing empty suit (see last debate) and the only way he will get elected is if there are more stupid voters than informed voters. I'm not particularly a Romney fan but I hope he will rise to the occasion and give this country what it needs, mainly some fiscal and moral sanity. As I said, for such old equipment why are we spending more than the rest of the world on the military? Must be a lot of waste somewhere especially with obsolete weapons systems and lack of accountability of funds. Newer equipment is much more advanced than old equipment so a F-22 would have no problem knocking numerous older aircraft out of the sky.

Perhaps the government should stop helping support these endeavors. Here is one during the Bush administration. You could call it George W. Bush's and the Republicans' Solyndra, a company called Range Fuels.
Instead of claiming to turn cylindrical solar cells into energy, Range Fuels said it would squeeze fuel out of woodchips. We learned the government has liquidated this failed, heavily subsidized undertaking.
Range Fuels a cellulosic ethanol company backed by as much as $156 million in U.S. loans and grants from President George W. Bush’s administration, is being forced by the government to liquidate its only factory after failing to produce the fuel.
To turn wood chips into ethanol fuel, George W. Bush's Department of Energy in February 2007 announced a $76 million grant to Range Fuels for a cutting-edge refinery. A few months later, the refinery opened in the piney woods of Treutlen County, Ga., as the taxpayers of Georgia piled on another $6 million. In 2008, the ethanol plant was the first beneficiary of the Biorefinery Assistance Program, pocketing a loan for $80 million guaranteed by the U.S. taxpayers.
Republicans who have lathered the subsidies on Soperton and celebrated them -- Gov. Perdue, President Bush, Sens. Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss.

When compared to Obama's list of "Green Energy" failures Bush's expenditures were minimal.
• Raser Technologies. In 2010, the Obama administration gave Raser a $33 million taxpayer-funded grant to build a power plant in Beaver Creek, Utah. According to the Wall Street Journal, after burning through our tax dollars, the company filed for bankruptcy protection this year. The plant has fewer than 10 employees, and Raser owes $1.5 million in back taxes.
• ECOtality. The Obama administration gave ECOtality $126.2 million in taxpayer money in 2009 for, among other things, the installation of 14,000 electric car chargers in five states. Obama even hosted the company's president, Don Karner, in the first lady's box during the 2010 State of the Union address as an example of a stimulus success story.
• Nevada Geothermal Power (NGP). The Obama administration gave NGP a $98.5 million taxpayer loan guarantee in 2010. The New York Times reported in October that the company is in "financial turmoil" and that "after a series of technical missteps that are draining Nevada Geothermal's cash reserves, its own auditor concluded in a filing released last week that there was 'significant doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern.'"
Andrew Blawat
5:02 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2012
• First Solar. The Obama administration provided First Solar with more than $3 billion in loan guarantees for power plants in Arizona and California. According to a Bloomberg Businessweek report last week, the company "fell to a record low in Nasdaq Stock Market trading May 4 after reporting $401 million in restructuring costs tied to firing 30% of its workforce."
• Beacon Power. The Obama administration gave Beacon — a green-energy storage company — a $43 million loan guarantee. According to CBS News, at the time of the loan, "Standard and Poor's had confidentially given the project a dismal outlook of 'CCC-plus.'" Last fall, Beacon received a delisting notice from Nasdaq and filed for bankruptcy.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. A company called SunPower got a $1.2 billion loan guarantee from the Obama administration, and as of January, the company owed more than it was worth. Brightsource got a $1.6 billion loan guarantee and posted a string of net losses totaling $177 million.
And let's not forget Solyndra, the solar panel manufacturer that received $535 million in taxpayer-funded loan guarantees and went bankrupt, leaving taxpayers on the hook.

Lissa M...800K jobs were being lost each month when Obama took office. Under his Presidency, he reversed the trend and there has been consistent job growth since. Is his mission complete? No, but conditions are set for tremendous job growth.
Andrew...Deficit is the relationship of Rev vs. Exp. Over the last few years, Rev decreased due to recession, fewer jobs, and lower personal income. As such, deficits are higher. Using 11/2007 as starting point for jobs comparison is crazy as employment tumbled from 11/2007 to 1/2009 before Obama took office.
Hard...Per Romney & Ryan, 47% to 70% of Americans are parasites. Chances are, you, your parents, your kids, and siblings are parasites.
Andrew...Avg age of platform has to due with when designed, not necessarily when built. Even so, our 30-40 y/o "crap" can kick the world's A$$.
Lissa...We borrow money from China and elsewhere simply because our tax system doesn't generate as much as it should. Close high net worth loopholes, tax fraud and the deficit goes to $0 or surplus.
People...Please read and understand the tax code and review tax statistics before you speak about tax policy. Please read and learn about economics before you speak about jobs and business. The lack of knowledge is killing America. For what it's worth, the less educated a state is, the more likely it'll vote Republican (i.e. GA, AL, MS). Actually, DP - It has been done. Reagan inherited an economy twice as bad, double digit inflation, gas lines (yes, people waited in line for gas- it was rationed), and numerous other similarites. His first two years were tough- he even had a democratic congress bucking him every step of the way. BUT his ideas made too much sense, and he was able to get them to go along and wala! He turned it around and we had the most prosperous time in our history. It even lasted through Clinton who presided over much of what his economic policies brought. What did he do? The opposite of what obama has done. reigned in spending in washington, cut taxes ( he had to raise a few initially but knew when to stop unlike obama) and gave incentives to hire etc... basic economics. Spending and taxing doesn't. Never has. So, why do they do it? Those promises to spend money on certain bases gets them elected-that's why. So, they raise taxes to keep them happy.
AND reagan didn't spend his first 4 years blaming Carter - he got to work and actually worked. No hollywood talk shows for him. He respected the American people and had a dream and dared them to stand with him.

I am sick of paying more for groceries, gas and insurance and if Obama gets re-elected, it will be worse, much worse! I hate paying a lot for insurance. This is the first time in my life I have had to pay extra doctor bills. I the past, my copays covered everything and now I just paid off 2000.00 in doctor bill! I could have better used that money! Even Obama pushing and pushing couldn't get his health care debacle passed in 9 months. After the 911 attacks, both Republican and Democrats voted to go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unlike Obama, Bush waited for the approval of congress before randomly attacking another country.

When Obama had the gall to try bluff Romney and he public with his taking "offense," the so-call moderator had the further gall to stop Romney from replying which he was ready and raring to do.
That moderator even had the gall to reprimand Romney for Romney changing Obama's stated "public lands" to "federal" as if Romney was at fault.

Mr Smyth, Obama first let an American movie-maker, exercising his Right of Free Speech, take the blame for the Libyan debacle and all the deadly riots to follow so that the American had to go into hiding to protect himself.
Then Hillary, and then (with the help of a moderator no less) even Romney for even beginning to call him out on it.
Obama had said that he had even found it "offensive" that he, who has to receive the casualties, would have done so under the false premise that they were killed by protestors made irate by an American---even American fundamentalism---when that is exactly what he did and continued to do.
Obama is unworthy of being an American much less America's President.

The two candidates debated like light-weight grade-schoolers. Had I been there, my question would have been, "Can either of you tell the truth?"
I give the trophy to the moderator, Candy “death wish ticket” Crowley. To wit:
* She gave 9% more time to her Obama.
* She got to tell Romney to “sit down.”
* The question about why Obama had not kept his promise to ban assault rifles she re-cast as why Romney had flip-flopped on his stance on assault weapons.
* More than once she broke with the format of the session to deny Romney his follow-up comment.
* The time when Obama took over Romney’s session for a full minute, she remained mute.
* On Benghazi, she seconded Obama’s false statement about how he’d called the attacks acts of terror the day after the assault (to which reporters in the audience cheered).
It was Candy all the way.

News agency CNN reported on September 20th that the White House characterized the September 11th attack in Benghazi, Libya as terrorism "for the first time." This report, published over a week after the attack, contradicts the assertion by Barack Obama -- and CNN's own Candy Crowley -- that the President first made that assessment one day after the attack. Obama and Crowley made this claim in tandem during Tuesday's town hall debate against Governor Mitt Romney.

Honestly, I am sick of both of them - it's a shame we are stuck with voting for the lesser of two evils as opposed to voting for someone who will actually make a change in the right direction. And even worse, most people just buy into the garbage "fox news" or "liberal media" is peddling.
Romney has no platform that is going to help me as a middle class citizen - he will help my boss, and my bosses boss, and magically create 12 million jobs out of thin air, when our corporate tax rates are the lowest in the world already... Obama will help my kids go to school but put more welfare in place so the deadbeats will continue to sponge off my tax money. Romney thinks that we control the oil off our coasts, when we are at the mercy of big oil, who will drill when they feel they are ready, instead of when the need is there. Obama tried to start to supplement our dependency on oil by force feeding us alternative technologies and betting on their success. Both are the exact same on foreign policy, yet to hear Romney talk, Obama's policy is failure yet he is going to "get tough". Our country is run by lobbyist groups, who have vested interest in protecting their little empires (big oil, health, finance, environment, minority, religion, etc) It's easy to become jaded and cynical - it's the quandary of a two party system... And to make matters worse - people live in state predetermined to be either red or blue, so my vote doesn't even count!!! Woe is our future, regardless of who wins

The basic duty of the Goverment is to "protect" the citizens (war, crime, catastrophies, etc). Our problem in the USA is not "jobs", its the welfare of our people against war, crime, catastrophies. If you are protected, then you should be able to find your own job.

Mitt Romney wrongly claimed that it took 14 days for President Barack Obama to brand the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya a terrorist act.
THE FACTS: Obama is correct in saying that he referred to Benghazi as an act of terrorism on Sept. 12, the day after the attack. From the Rose Garden, he said: "No acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. ... We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act."
But others in his administration repeated for several days its belief that the violence stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam. It took almost a month before officials acknowledged that those protests never occurred. And Romney is right in arguing that the administration has yet to explain why it took so long for that correction to be made or how it came to believe that the attack evolved from an angry demonstration.

He said "no acts of terror" He used the world ACTS which is plural not singular and terror is not a synonym for terrorism.
Read it in context:
Of course, yesterday was already a painful day for our nation as we marked the solemn memory of the 9/11 attacks. We mourned with the families who were lost on that day. I visited the graves of troops who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan at the hallowed grounds of Arlington Cemetery, and had the opportunity to say thank you and visit some of our wounded warriors at Walter Reed. And then last night, we learned the news of this attack in Benghazi.
As Americans, let us never, ever forget that our freedom is only sustained because there are people who are willing to fight for it, to stand up for it, and in some cases, lay down their lives for it. Our country is only as strong as the character of our people and the service of those both civilian and military who represent us around the globe.
NO ACTS OF TERROR will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for. Today we mourn four more Americans who represent the very best of the United States of America. We will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act. And make no mistake, justice will be done.

So, is it your position that , while speaking about the act of terror in Bengazi and lamenting the loss of Americans to an act of terror Obama wasnt referring to the act of terror that caused him to be speaking on an act of terror because he didnt refer specifically to the terrorist act as an act of terror, even though he did?

He said "five"--which was a gross underestimate.
"...for President Barack Obama to brand the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya a terrorist act..."
Pointedly not "terrorism"---by organized terrorists.
"THE FACTS: Obama is correct in saying that he referred to Benghazi as an act of terrorism on Sept. 12, the day after the attack."
Liar. He pointedly said "of terror" (not "terrorism") by protestors incited by a movie---NOT---organized "terrorists" who would never have thought that Obama and Clinton would then incite the Muslim world with their false claim of an unknown film being responsible much less enflame Americans for their sacrificing even our Right of Free Speech to their merely political ambitions.
"From the Rose Garden, he said: 'No acts of terror..."
Pointedly: "terror"---not "terrorism."
I was shocked to hear him say it.
"But others in his administration repeated for several days its belief that the violence stemmed from protests over an American-made video ridiculing Islam."
"But others.."? Liar: It was Obama's speech in the Rose Garden that---as it was meant to--- CONFIRMED (or even then attempted to)---the murders to be an act of "terror" by "protestors" becasue of "a movie" that he even apologized for.

BTW, just prir to the last debate Hillary, who had again confirmed taking responsibility---blame (for Obama)---was asked just why the failure.

Obama trivialized the murders by claiming the attack to have been an "act of terror" by protestors incited by a movie.
He was telling Americans that we would not tolerate attacks even by even ordinary Muslims incited by a movie (which, like everyone else, they had never even heard of before) while, all along, that was not the case.
Why? Because the truth would diminish his chance for reelection.
Day after day Clinton and Obama's spokesmen made this claim which, if lying to Americans was not enough, was also being broadcast worldwide, inciting thousands of Muslims to engage in deadly anti-American protests because of the movie that they essentially only heard about from Obama and Clinton.

ROMNEY: "As a matter of fact, oil production is down 14 percent this year on federal land, and gas production was down 9 percent. Why? Because the president cut in half the number of licenses and permits for drilling on federal lands and in federal waters."
OBAMA: "Very little of what Governor Romney just said is true. We've opened up public lands. We're actually drilling more on public lands than in the previous administration and my – the previous president was an oilman."

Drilling has indeed increase on private lands, says IE, particularly in the Bakken Shale of North Dakota. But oil production from federal lands is at a nine-year low. The graph to the left shows oil production from private and state lands (the red line) versus production from federal lands (the blue line). Private success has increased sharply since the President took office in 2009 but production from federal lands has declined.

According to an Energy Department study published in the spring, sales of oil from federal areas fell 14 percent between 2010 and 2011 and sales of natural gas production fell 9 percent, supporting Romney's point. The lower oil production was a result mainly of a moratorium on offshore drilling imposed by the Obama administration after the April 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history.
According to the same report, though, oil production from federal areas is up 13 percent since Obama took office despite last year's dip, and analysts say Gulf oil production is expected to soon exceed its pre-spill levels.
Natural gas production from federal areas has been declining for years because drillers have found vast reserves of natural gas in formations under several states that are cheaper to access than most federally controlled areas.

So when you say that I wanted to take the auto industry bankrupt, you actually did. And I think it's important to know that that was a process that was necessary to get those companies back on their feet, so they could start hiring more people. That was precisely what I recommended and ultimately what happened."
THE FACTS: What Romney recommended did not happen, and his proposed path probably would have forced General Motors and Chrysler out of business. He opposed using government money to bail out the automakers, instead favoring privately financed bankruptcy restructuring. But the automakers were bleeding cash and were poor credit risks. The banking system was in crisis. So private loans weren't available. Without government aid, both companies probably would have gone under and their assets sold in pieces.

To be exact: GM’s December 31, 2011 annual report shows General Motors of North America accounting for 98,000 of the 207,000 GM jobs worldwide. But 12,000 of these jobs are in Canada and 11,500 are in Mexico. Accordingly, GM has 74,500 jobs in the United States and 122,500 abroad, even after Obama’s touted surge in Detroit jobs. Almost two thirds of GM’s jobs are in other countries.
GM’s outsourcing is not a slip. GM clearly states that foreign investment and outsourcing of jobs are an integral parts of its growth strategy.

ROMNEY: "The proof of whether a strategy is working or not is what the price is that you're paying at the pump. If you're paying less than you paid a year or two ago, why, then, the strategy is working. But you're paying more. When the president took office, the price of gasoline here in Nassau County was about $1.86 a gallon. Now, it's $4.00 a gallon. The price of electricity is up. If the president's energy policies are working, you're going to see the cost of energy come down."
THE FACTS: Presidents have almost no effect on energy prices; most are set on financial exchanges around the world. When Obama took office, the world was in the grip of a financial crisis and crude prices – and gasoline prices along with them – had plummeted because world demand had collapsed. Crude oil prices have since risen even as U.S. oil production has soared in recent years because global demand is reaching new heights as the developing economies of Asia use more oil.
Other energy prices have fallen during Obama's term. Electricity prices, when adjusted for inflation, are down, and homeowners are finding it much cheaper to heat their homes with natural gas. That's because natural gas production has surged, reducing prices both for homeowners and for utilities that burn gas to generate electricity.

THE FACTS: Romney is proposing to cut all income tax rates by 20 percent, eliminate the estate tax and the alternative minimum tax, maintain and expand tax breaks for investment income, and do it all without adding to the deficit or shifting the tax burden from the wealthy to the middle class. He says he would pay for the tax cuts by reducing or eliminating tax deductions, exemptions and credits, but he can't achieve all of his goals it under the budget rules presidents must follow.

The Tax Policy Center, a Washington research group, says in a study that the tax cuts proposed by Romney would reduce federal tax revenues by about $5 trillion over 10 years. The study concludes that there aren't enough tax breaks for the wealthy to make up the lost revenue, so the proposal would either add to the deficit or shift more of the tax burden on to the middle class.
Romney's campaign cites studies by conservative academics and think tanks that say Romney's plan will spur economic growth, generating enough additional money to pay for the tax cuts without adding to the deficit or shifting the tax burden to the middle class. But Congress doesn't recognize those kinds of economic projections when it estimates the budget impact of tax proposals.

ROMNEY: "A recent study has shown that people in the middle class will see $4,000 a year in higher taxes as a result of the spending and borrowing of this administration."
THE FACTS: Romney's claim is based on an analysis by the conservative American Enterprise Institute that examines the amount of debt that has accumulated on Obama's watch and in a potential second term and computes how much it would cost to finance that debt through tax increases. Annual deficits under Obama have exceeded $1 trillion for each year of his term.
However, Obama is not responsible for all of the deficits that have occurred on his watch. Most of the federal budget – like Medicare, food stamps, Medicaid and Social Security – runs on autopilot, and no one in a leadership position in Washington has proposed deep cuts in those programs. And politicians in both parties voted two years ago the renew Bush-era tax cuts that have contributed to the deficit. Even under the strict spending cuts proposed by Romney, the debt would continue to rise, just not as fast.

President Obama won the debate and will win the election. At this point, if you consider yourself 'undecided' you are a fraud, just like Mitt Romney. The only reason people are claiming to be undecided is because they are still looking for something to attach themselves to with Mitt 'I'll say whatever it takes to get your vote' Romney to vote against the man in the Whitehouse. All that has happened prior to 1/20/2009 when the country was in free fall and hundreds of thousands of people were loosing their jobs, homes, 401k savings in the market, health care bills on the rise yet people are so unsure of what this President has done and will continue to do to bring the middle and lower class back ......give me a break. Romney has changed his position on every issue and flat out lied in your face and you are still unsure. He has no specifics and told approx. half (47%) of this country they are worthless. He was born with a silverspoon up his a$$ and tells you he feels your pain. How he wants to create 12 millions jobs in the next 4 years by tax cuts but even though that has been disproven for the last 10 years of tax cuts for the 1%, you want to go along with it yet again. How do you trust a man who puts his money in foreign banks, not American which would stimulatemo re lending power here or release more than 1 yr. of tax returns? Joke about being born here, even though his parents weren't and grandparents fled this country because of bigamy belief. Romney privatize everything!!

Words are nothing without action. I voted for Obama and have been sorely disappointed. Yes, he is intelligent. Yes, he is articulate. But no, I have not seen the change that was promised and my hope in his leadership has continously declined. We gave him a chance, and he has not performed so it is time to let him go.
I believe in a government that protects our citizens and prioritizes leadership by demonstrating fiscally responsible practices. I believe in an America that is not dependent on the government. If you want to change the US, how about supporting programs that keep families together (like marriage building programs, parenting programs, and how to manage a budget without using debt) instead of just food stamps (just an example of a program already in place -- and not that I want to do away with it). I love PBS but why should the government subsidize it? If we love it so much, we should pay for it and Comcast or AT&T (or whom ever you get your cable from) should put a portion of the money towards PBS.

Why was George W. Bush fleecing us on gas prices when he was President?
The price of gasoline increased from $1.60 per gallon when he took office in January 2001 to $4.40 per gallon in July 2008. Why did he let it get to $4.40? Wasn't it his job to make sure gas was cheap? How come he's never been made to explain himself? How responsible has President Obama been for unemployment?
Look at the picture, which shows monthly job losses starting in January of 2008, one year before the President too office.
http://www.cbpp.org/images/chartbook_images/1.2-monthly-change-OPT.jpg
Monthly job losses had gone off a cliff before the President took office due to policies in place before he took office. Since it is not realistic to expect any President to enter office and implement his policies immediately and for those policies to change the course of the economy immediately, Note that by 6 months after entering job losses had been cut in half and a year after entering office there were actual job gains.

Do some minimal research. This chart shows domestic crude oil production over the past few years. NOTE that the chart bottoms out in 2008, the year before President Obama took office, and goes up after Obama took office.
http://static6.businessinsider.com/image/507e15ba69beddaf5a000017/domestic-crude-oil-production.jpg
Governor Romney's energy claims don't make sense. He was stressing last night that the President has limited the number of acres of federal land that could be leased.
When I pull up to QT I don't ask if my gas came from federally leased lands or private land, just like I don't ask if it came from Iran or Canada.
The fact is that domestic crude oil production is WAY up over the last 4 years.
Why aren't we asking why it was way down when President Bush was in office and gas was $4.40 per gallon?

@steve - So you are willing to concede that your earlier point that Obama put all his eggs in one basket with solar is nonsensical. Good, at least that is a start.
We can also agree that Governor Romney's critique of federal land leases is dumb as well since domestic crude oil production is WAY up since President Obama took office.
Since you seem to have a good business head on your shoulders let's just conclude that the retail price of gas is a function of supply and demand and the President has very little impact on it.
Now jobs. Surely you agree that an economy that lost jobs at the following rate:
September 2008 – 280,000 jobs lost
October 2008 – 240,000 jobs lost
November 2008 – 333,000 jobs lost
December 2008 – 632,000 jobs lost
January 2009 – 820,000 jobs lost (inauguration, January 20, 2009)
before the President took office could not be blamed for this sort of loss after he took office. It isn't possible to stop an economy that had gone off a cliff right away:
February 2009 – 681,000 jobs lost
March 2009 – 652,000 jobs lost
April 2009 – 519,000 jobs lost
May 2009 – 303,000 jobs lost
June 2009 – 463,000 jobs lost
July 2009 – 276,000 jobs lost
August 2009 – 201,000 jobs lost
September 2009 – 263,000 jobs lost
October 2009 – 111,000 jobs lost[3]
November 2009 - 64,000 jobs created[4] ........
December 2009 - 109,000 jobs lost

For all of you republicans who were apparently in a coma, watch the video and remember how we were in a state of FREE FALL, watching the United States fall apart at the seams. Obama has turned that around and we are headed in the direction we were headed before Bush. But the republicans have filibustered more than ever in the history of our nation, to put a stop to everything Obama has tried; they wanted to make sure he was a one-term President from the start. We would be in much better shape had the republicans worked with Obama, rather than against everything he tried to do. Republican intransigence on economic policy has been a key contributor to the sluggish recovery. As early as 2009, Republican fear-mongering over spending and their readiness to filibuster in the Senate helped convince the White House economic team that an $800 billion stimulus was the most they could hope to get through Congress. Reporting has since revealed that the team thought the country actually needed a stimulus on the order of $1.2 to $1.8 trillion. The economy’s path over the next three years proved them right. Here are the top five ways the Republicans have sabotaged the economic recovery since they
filibustered the American Jobs Act. Last October, Senate Republicans killed a jobs bill proposed by President Obama that would have pumped $447 billion into the economy. Multiple economic analysts predicted the bill would add around two million jobs and hailed it as defense against a double-dip recession. The Congressional Budget Office also scored it as a net deficit reducer over ten years, and the American public supported the bill.

EVEN FOX NEWS DOESN'T BELIEVE ROMNEY"S TAX PLAN!
The Romney/Ryan tax plan has been drawing quite a bit of scrutiny after several critics, citing a recent Tax Policy Center study, declared its proposed implementation to be mathematically impossible. If this surprisingly thorough interview of Senior Romney advisor Ed Gillespie by Fox News' Chris Wallace is any indication, Romney's tax math is starting to raise eyebrows and blood pressures on both sides of the aisle.

Tax Policy Center is a joint venture of the liberal Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute. Heavy leftist bias.
"In September 1990, The Washington Post reported on the Census Bureau's annual measurement of poverty. Post reporters Spencer Rich and Barbara Vobejda wrote: "Economists across the political spectrum said yesterday the current economic picture could mean an even greater rise in poverty." The Post followed this with two economists: Henry Aaron of the Brookings Institution and Isabel Sawhill of the Urban Institute, two indistinguishable liberals."

Obama = Romney = Corporate Shills for Goldman Sachs
If you really look, there is virtually no difference between Obama and Romney. Both are financed by big money corporations to whom they are beholden. They both are for curtailing your freedoms (e.g. Patriot Act, NDAA, warrantless wiretapping, TSA, etc.), promoting and enhancing corporate profits and control ( e.g. Bank bailout, extensions of copyright, military spending, insurance companies, telecommunications providers, etc) not for insuring the health and welfare of our citizens and small companies.

Some of these comments sound like sound bites. Let me ask; who do you want handling our wars, foreign affairs and well being. Who will the world leaders trust? I believe it will be hard to trust someone that changes his stand everytime the polls or electrorial vote is at stake. The world is in a very unstable place right now. Please think about that when voting. There is not room for the learning curve and "OH that's not what I meant".
Debra Williams

No learning curve for Romney - his past business experiences have proven his record, still trying to find past successes for Obama. The government is a business, we don't need to keep putting attorneys, community organizers, etc. in such a powerful office when they don't know what they're doing. A GOVERNOR has more experience running a government than a Senator or House Rep. Take a look a Obama's record while serving as Senator.

@ James T Smith - it worked out great for me until the Democrats took over the House and Senate (and Obama was sitting there then as well) and it all went to hell in a handbasket. Do your research regarding what happened when we had a Republican President and Democrats in both the House and Senate - they were uncooperative and passed all those stupid bailouts, and Obama continued the bailouts and take a look at where those companies are now! I don't have anything to look at in the morning. I haven't had a sustaining, full time job for over two years.
I don't blame Obama for me losing my job. I do however blame Obama for crippling our economy. A year ago, I would never have said this but now, I honestly believe that Obama is hosing up our economy purposely. His actions along with his words leave me with no other explanation. In the past year, I have become more educated in modern politics and what Obama does and says he wants are flat out damning to this nation. As a child, my father told me about the struggles during the depression. These people were hurting and had to resort to crappy jobs and growing their own food. I think America today is in denial and we have a rude awakening regardless of who is elected this year. I struggle with the fact that I can't bring myself to pray for this President as I feel he has bad intentions. This breaks my heart. I have been forced to sell items that I wanted to leave to my Grandchildren and it pains me that I will have nothing of value left to leave. Obama seems to me like a typical, self serving, arrogant politician. America can no longer afford such behavior.
I pray that God will have mercy on this great nation and allow us to recover. I do though believe that God will not help us if we do not help ourselves.

Keep studying politics until you get to the part about how CONGRESS is responsible for passing, amending or defeating legislation. I also doubt very seriously that God gives a crap about the money changers that rule this country or its financial well being. Afterall, if Jesus were alive today he would surely be branded a socialist, anti-gun, pro entitlements, liberal by this crowd.
I wish you well but, blaming President Obama only for your problems or the countries economy and somehow thinking that if we get another out of touch, Harvard grad in there that something will change, is well....silly.
It takes a whole bunch of ineffective, out for themselves only millionaires in DC to get us to where we are today.
How about blaming the FACT that congress is completely unable to compromise on anything or get any meaningful legislation passed no matter who is in charge due to the absurd level of political extremism in this country?

Stephen W. Ramsden
8:02 am on Thursday, October 18, 2012
John Adams
"The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion."
From a letter to Charles Cushing (October 19, 1756):
"Twenty times in the course of my late reading, have I been upon the point of breaking out, 'this would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it.'"
From a letter to Thomas Jefferson:
"I almost shudder at the thought of alluding to the most fatal example of the abuses of grief which the history of mankind has preserved -- the Cross. Consider what calamities that engine of grief has produced!"
"The Doctrine of the divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity."
"...Thirteen governments [of the original states] thus founded on the natural authority of the people alone, without a pretence of miracle or mystery, and which are destined to spread over the northern part of that whole quarter of the globe, are a great point gained in favor of the rights of mankind."
Thomas Jefferson
"...an amendment was proposed by inserting the words, 'Jesus Christ...the holy author of our religion,' which was rejected 'By a great majority in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and the Mohammedan, the Hindoo and the Infidel of every denomination.'"
Stephen W. Ramsden
8:03 am on Thursday, October 18, 2012
From Thomas Jefferson's Bible:
"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."
"I have examined all the known superstitions of the world, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half of the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the earth."
"In every country and in every age the priest has been hostile to liberty; he is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own."
"Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear....Do not be frightened from this inquiry by any fear of its consequences. If it end in a belief that there is no God, you will find incitements to virtue on the comfort and pleasantness you feel in its exercise and in the love of others which it will procure for you."
Stephen W. Ramsden
8:04 am on Thursday, October 18, 2012
"Christianity...[has become] the most perverted system that ever shone on man....Rogueries, absurdities and untruths were perpetrated upon the teachings of Jesus by a large band of dupes and importers led by Paul, the first great corrupter of the teaching of Jesus."
James Madison (the fourth President of the United States)
Memorial and Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments:
"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise....During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution."
Benjamin Franklin
From Franklin's autobiography, p. 66:
"My parents had given me betimes religious impressions, and I received from my infancy a pious education in the principles of Calvinism. But scarcely was I arrived at fifteen years of age, when, after having doubted in turn of different tenets, according as I found them combated in the different books that I read, I began to doubt of Revelation itself."

I do find it funny though that while many in one group in this blog considers Obama the anti-Christ, many of the other (Obama's supporters) seem to enjoy bashing Christianity. We can apply labels and debate character flaws, but when you enter the voting booth, you will be making a choice between run-away spending and an erosion of personal freedoms, (Obama, if you had any doubts) and some semblance of fiscal sanity and the protection of personal freedoms. Spin it any way you want, Obama has a proven track record of out-of-control spending and assaults on personal freedoms. By his own admission, he is dedicated to redistributing income. That is an extremists statement about our president.
The economic elite (the wealthy few) have pushed through policies that benefit themselves at the expense of the vast majority of working Americans. The campaign to lower taxes on the rich: (The top rate on the super-wealthy was 92% in the 1950's, but only 35% today). The assault on middle class retirement. (85,000 pension plans have been eliminated since 1985). And, especially, free trade and deregulation, which have allowed companies to ship millions of jobs to low wage countries. These are legitimate issues that must be talked about in the context of rebuilding the middle class.

I recommend going to Wikipedia and looking at the per capita taxes that the average state citizen spends. We're number 50 there as well. As in we pay the lowest per capita taxes per state. $1,630. In contrast the average person in Vermont pays $4,290. We may be 50 in education but we can a least do enough math to realize a good deal when we see it.

Notice that the northern states have a much larger tax burden. I take Georgia over them all. As Lewis Grizzard used to say "if you don't like it here, Delta is ready when you are!!"

I came to the conclusion a while back that with many on the right, a fact-based discussion on certain issues is never going to happen. They simply cannot do it. Obama, climate change, gay rights, government, taxation are all examples of issues where no degree of facts, numbers or direct quotes is ever going to sway them. They know what they know. End of story.
Their version of reality, fostered by years of Fox News and wingnut media indoctrination, is not of this world. Hell, it’s not even of this universe. They speak a language which only makes sense to others of their kind. To you and I, it’s sheer madness. To them, we’re the enemy.
The key, I think, to communicating with those on the right is to be able to identify those conservatives who have not yet abdicated their right to think for themselves. For the others who have turned over control of their rational minds, at least on certain issues, to the likes of O’Reilly, Beck and Limbaugh, you’re wasting your time.

Yes, when you are a conservative already brainwashed by the media, that is a typical response. Your conservative media also suggests that the three month oil gusher that was caused by BP was just fine to leave alone and let nature take its course... After all, seaweed and salt water are the fix for an oil spill! Those of us who educate ourselves to the dangers of the global climate change understand that you will stand there and laugh, but that's your choice. Weak minded individuals let the television tell them what to think. Thats a truly lazy way to learn, but, hey, if you're satisfied with laughing and saying there's no such thing as global warming, knock yourself out. Your ancestors were more than likely the ones saying, "what are those crazy men talking about? They can never make a flying machine!" Education is the key. I saw a earlier post where a woman was saying Georgia was like, 48th in education, and then saying how proud she was that the democrats will never win Georgia. Made me scratch my head a bit at her logic. By the way, I do not live in Georgia. My husband and I were looking to transfer to the Atlanta area for business, but this is enough to convince me that Georgia may not be the place I want my children and grandchildren to live. I have only seen three or four people posting that show any sign of intelligence, the rest have all posted exactly the regurgitated FOX/ O'Reilly/ Beck lies.

When the left has nothing (which is usually the case), they blame everyone else as minions of right wing media and attack religion. The last I checked, we are still a free nation and we all have access to various resources of information. I don't speak for everyone but I personally do not take notes from the AJC or Faux and Friends. I certainly give no credence to anyone who claims to get a tingle running up his leg after listening to Obama speak. Nor do I condone moron, wife cheating liars like David Letterman or big mouth woman abusers like Bill Maher.

Leave it to a republican to think the term "global warming" implies there will never be any more cold weather. You people are truly sad, and, as stated previously, it's a waste of time to try and discuss politics in a civil manner. You have lost the ability to think for yourselves, and are only able to rehash what you have been told. It's a sad fact that even the decent republicans suffer from implicit bias. Many will vote solely on what they heard on FAUX news, and many will swallow Dinesh D'Souzas ideological misinterpretations literally hook, line and sinker. Sadly, it is just as one of your republican candidates for president recently said publicly, the uninformed and uneducated will be the voters for the republican candidate. Not sure how your link proves President Obama is white, and complaining about affrimative action only supports my argument of racism. To pretend America has no need for affirmative action is blatant denial or the racial realities existing in our country. Additionally, in response to your labeling President Obama as white, believe it or not, you do not get to define biracial individuals. I know that may be hard for you, but it's something you'll just have to accept. And if he were white, then why all the nonsense about his birth certificate? Why the refusal to believe his religious affliation? Why do people at Romney rallies wear shirts that read, "Put the White back in the White House," among other racist signs? That would indicate the right does not view our president as white. Nice try though. Also, if race doesn't play a role in the right's hatred of President Obama, why would a school such as Liberty University endorse Romney? Liberty University, a Christian school, views Mormonism as a cult, yet they endore a cult member over a fellow Christian? Strange. Why would they do such a thing? Either they are a wing of the republican party, or they are racist. Either is fine with me, just admit it. Don't hide it. Be open with your bias. That's all I'm asking for.

Yet the very same group of people who burned their albums and boycotted their music is now responsible for the thousands of outright LIES against the president. You don't think qualified minorities are still overlooked by employers? You don't think qualified minorities are still passed over by college admissions departments? It does not hurt that he is actually smart & competent either. Oh, you meant black. I didn't realize that that is only minority that matters.

No, I actually believe the program has merit, but like any government initiative, it has those that take advantage.
My point was simple - if my daughter is qualified to go to a school, has stronger grades and test scores, to me she is better qualified than someone with lesser scores and grades, regardless of gender or color. I would like to think she made it in on merit, not because of her gender, or her skin color - that was my point.. If the standards are the standards regardless, then there is no argument - sort of becomes the tie breaker.
Now, if the school were to turn down my daughter because she didn't fit the slots they had to fill, why wouldn't I take offense to that - that is my point. At what point does qualified become just about qualified, not qualified with considerations?

Do you know that if you want to do any work in the City of Atlanta and you bid on the job, that you have to have so many minorities working for you? My brother and his friend started their own business after the company they worked for shut down, and they are both white. They can't bid on any jobs for the City of Atlanta. Does that sound right to anybody? Does it sound like they are being "forced" to hire a minority if they want to get a job?

Obama was responsible for most of 2009's budget.
For fiscal year 2009, President Bush in February, 2008 proposed a budget with just a 3% spending increase over the prior year. Fiscal year 2009 ran from October 1, 2008 until September 30, 2009.
Recall, however, that in 2008 Congress was controlled by Democrat majorities, with Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, and the restless Senator Obama already running for President, just four years removed from his glorious career as a state Senator in the Illinois legislature. As Hans Bader reported on May 26 for the Washington Examiner, the budget approved and implemented by Pelosi, Obama and the rest of the Congressional Democrat majorities provided for a 17.9 percent increase in spending for fiscal 2009!
Actually, President Obama and the Democrats were even more deeply involved in the fiscal 2009 spending explosion than that. As Bader also reports, “The Democrat Congress [in 2008], confident Obama was going to win in 2008, passed only three of fiscal 2009’s 12 appropriations bills (Defense, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Homeland Security). The Democrat Congress passed the rest of them [in 2009], and [President] Obama signed them.” So Obama played a very direct role in the runaway fiscal 2009 spending explosion.

Jay - if you think ANY president can do anything without the backing of congress and the senate, you are sadly mistaken - all presidents come in with the best intentions, with the outline of an initiative so to speak - then the hounds tack on their wish lists, and by the time the thing comes up for a vote, it is so bastardized you hardly recognize it - so many addendum and fluff. And it doesn't help when there is no compromise to be had on other side - people seem to like to forget that...
Oh, and Romney is the great negotiator, right? He is going to bring both sides together? Please - it's the friggin hatfields and mccoys over there - I agree that Obama has not done a good job, but my position is simple - Romney is not the best candidate, he is not a good choice, and I'd rather abstain then support someone I do not believe is a good choice... We need LEGISLATIVE reform as well - clean the entire slate, reform their benefits, terms, and take the career out of politics... They have become corrupted by special interest and lobbyist groups

Even worse than that David - truly qualified candidates get labeled "extreme" or "crazy"
We are facing a huge problem that will need outside the box thinking, but most voters are afraid of real change, hence why we have the media golden children in front of us, with no voice for any opposition - Not that Gary Johnson is a viable alternative, but I would have liked to see a different voice in the debates, but the fact is the republican party sees him as simply taking votes away from them, and are doing anything in their power to stifle him, even going as far as to get him removed from ballots.
So the lesson to my kids is "anyone can be president, as long as you are red or blue" -

Okay. Without naming names, I'll explain exactly why some comments are being deleted by me and other moderators. it's because they violate the terms of service. As to the accusations of political favoritism, I just deleted several comments from one of the more vitriolic liberal voices on this thread, and the vast majority of comments on this thread seem to be from conservatives. We're letting them stay up because they don't violate terms of service.
Let me make this simple. If you're about to call someone a name you wouldn't call your mother to her face, don't post it. If we catch it, regardless of your political affiliation, it's gone. If you're about to post something about a racial or religious minority you wouldn't say in mixed company, don't post it. And keep in mind this thread has hundreds of comments. If you think a post is offensive, flag it to let us know to take a look; otherwise we might honestly miss it. If it's abusive or racist, it will be deleted. Being liberal or conservative is fine. Being abusive isn't.

And free speech goes just so far. I agree that calling people nasty names is wrong, but it should be fine for someone to have an opinion and comment about it. Why do you think there's over 500 comments here? Because of different opinions. While I don't think anybody's mind is going to be changed here, I am learning a lot. Some of the info may be wrong, but it's forcing me to fact check, which is good. Just be nice about your beliefs, don't say someone is wrong because of their opinion. North Georgia Weather
11:51 am on Friday, October 19, 2012
Yes there is. If there is a law prohibiting discrimination, and now people try to get a job based on qualifications and can't because they are not one of the "minorities" the law is trying to protect, regardless of their qualifications, that is reverse discrimination. Call it what you want.
So what I hear you say is that it is discrimination? Sure what it sounds like to me. You seem to be talking out of both sides of your mouth.
And yes, it is a "fact" that African-American kids are not doing as well in school as some other races. Please dispute that if you possibly can, but I know you can't. The facts don't lie about this subject.
Isley Adams
12:00 pm on Friday, October 19, 2012
How am I talking out of both sides of my moth? I'm saying discrimination is discrimination. It's hard to be more clear than that. You're calling it discrimination when it happens to white people because of affirative action, correct? So how are we disagreeing? I guess you feel it's only a problem when a white person experiences something other races have been experiencing for years. Then it's "reverse" discrimination and it shouldn't be accepted. If it happens to a black person, they aren't as smart, and this can't be argued according to you, so it's no big deal. Nice. And to be even more clear, it's the impoverished who perform worst in school. Race doesn't really matter, socioeconomics do. That's why affirmative action matters, but go ahead and ignore that. I know it doesn't go with your argument. Facts rarely do.
North Georgia Weather
12:11 pm on Friday, October 19, 2012
Isley, the problem is that the minorities are protected by the law where others aren't. So when someone discriminates to the "majority" because a law tells them to, then yes, that is discrimination. And being smart is about being educated, not based on the color of your skin. I should get a job based on whether I'm qualified, not based on whether there are enough minorities in the company.
Yes, socio-ecomonics is the driving factor, but tell me, how does that change the facts?

Correct. There is either "Equal Protection of the Law" or there is not; and there is not.
Moreover, there is, objectively, one best conception of justice to strive for, realize and apply from a court' bench and no such thing as "an old white men's," "wise Latina's" or any other's.
"Objectively." As we do know it from the legal precepts for law as they did evolve through centuries of repression, rebellion, inquisition, torture and even revolution, in the Anglo-American experience, in pursuit of freedom and justice for all.
Not or ever because, as Sotomayor described, in her childhood how her mother cooked Puerto Rican dishes as opposed to any other.
Not or ever the codified rule of, for only one example, Latin America in pursuit of rule slyly being foisted on America and Americans by, most essentially, proxies of the MxGov, as "diversity": 'divison'.

Thank you David. So my suspicions of power hungry patch cops may be spot on. I wouldn't want to delete anyone's post unless it contained adult language or links to offensive media but I think that these patch sitters are delete happy and forget that advertisers pay for high traffic sites. If we have discussions that generate traffic, we are helping the patch sell ads. God knows they have enough putrid Obama ads. I assume someone paid to put Michelle nasty mug on every page. I wish no ill toward the patch and hope they do well but I can go to any number of blog sites around the world and generate traffic there. The baby sitting BS and constantly reminding everyone of patch policies is obnoxious. Nobody gives a rats den. Do people actually get paid for this? If so, it would make sense that there would be financial issues.
"feel free to flag it for us so we can review it" Give me a frickin break. Who Cares? I find that some of the more civil blogs online are not moderated at all until enough complaints are made. If you delete a message, it just encourages more of the same. You ignore it and it takes away the fun.

@David:
Patch was founded by Tim Armstrong in 2007 after Armstrong said he found a dearth of online information on his hometown of Riverside, Connecticut.[7] The company was then acquired by AOL in 2009 shortly after Armstrong became AOL's CEO. Armstrong told AOL staffers that he recused himself from negotiations to acquire the company and did not directly profit from his seed investment. He instead asked that his seed money be returned to him in the form of AOL stock when it split from Time Warner.[8]
The acquisition occurred on June 11, 2009.[9][10] AOL paid an estimated $7 million in cash for the news platform as part of its effort to reinvent itself as a content provider beyond its legacy dial-up Internet business. AOL, which split from Time-Warner in late 2009, announced in 2010 it would be investing $50 million or more into the startup of the Patch.com network.[11] As part of the acquisition Brod became President of AOL Ventures, Local & Mapping, and Warren Webster became president of Patch.

For the record I am a socially liberal fiscally conservative person - I can care less who gets married, who smokes what, as long as it doesn't affect me and my family, and doesn't cost me money for their "freedoms" I believe in social welfare as an obligation with strings attached, namely work requirements or volunteer time required - ie. so many hours required in volunteer time if you are not able to work. I believe in God, but don't force you to believe the same way I do, nor will condemn you for not believing.. I believe in mandatory military service for citizens, I believe in a flat tax across everyone, so EVERYONE pays their fair share - this captures the illegal immigrants who currently do not pay into the federal programs - I also believe in complete government reform, term limits, no more lifetime benefits and no more government lobbying or special interests, and complete campaign reform - these guys have raised billions of dollars that do nothing except brainwash gulible citizens that go by soundbites and whatever the talking heads tell them. I also believe in a form of isolationism in the sense that you don't walk past your own dirty yard to clean up your neighbors first.. In essence, I probably will never have a candidate for me, and I am probably not too far off, there are plenty of people with the same opinion.

What part of that makes you think we are heading in the right direction?

Historical context is always helpful in these discussions regarding 2007-08 campaign promises. During the last Presidential campaign cycle, (ie when the current President and Sen. McCain were campaigning) the economy was still running smoothly. What we know now as "The Great Recession" hit just 2 months prior to election day and continued through to Obama's inauguration. Both campaigns, at the time, were campaigning with ideas and issues that did not and could not have anticipated what was about to happen. Referencing campaign promises about the economy from 07-08 and saying that they pertain to the reality of the last 4 years, from either party, is taking things way out of historical context.
JayMan

Jane Patla Tanner...im not sure if you are aware of the historical context of Obama's 2008 campaign but he repeatedly said Bush had created the worst economy since the Great Depression and calling the Bush era deficits "unpatriotic"!! So he knew good and well how bad the economy was when he "inherited" it.
“That’s why today, I’m pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office.” Barack Obama - February 2009

For the record, (to those of you discussing who owns Patch), AOL owns Patch and Huffington Post. However, as editors, we create the content. We do the reporting, attend the events, write the pieces. When there is an "opinion" piece, that's all it is, and it's labeled as such. Some editors are more on the liberal side, some more conservative. When it comes to deleting comments, we follow Patch's terms of use. But in long streams of comments like this one, it's not always possible to catch nasty ones. I have no problem with people who condemn Obama for not doing the job they feel he promised to do - heck I voted for him because I fell for the "change" platform and feel duped..
I do, however, have a problem with the birthers, the racists and the ones that keep calling him a muslim, or tout Romney as some extreme opposite of him - he has as well lied, hides the 8 years of tax returns that show his true character as a "businessman" and will tell anyone exactly what they want to hear except the truth - he saves that for fundraising events with his other one percenters... .
Steve R.

Pete, I was agreeing with you right up to the part where you say that Romney is hiding his tax returns. Obama was born in Hawaii, his reigion is his business not mine. If Obama says he's a Christian but he is not, I see it as an effort on his part to ease any trust issues. Again, it's not important in the big scheme. I too hate racists and I also hate those that use the term as easy ammunition against common tax paying, Tea Party folks that only want a responsible government.
As for Romney AND Obama, I think they both have lied or streached the truth to win votes. On the other hand, Romney has been accussesd of murder and being a felon tax cheat like our Tresury Secretary. Romney is not required to show his returns so what does he have to gain by doing so? The answer is nothing. The libs will use it against him any way they can so why would he? You call it hiding while he considers it destructive. Unlike Obama, Romney7 has been totally vetted by the liberal media and they have nothing. Obams has a ton of skeletons and the liberal media ignores it. Romney is doing exactly what he should do with his returns as he has nothing to gain otherwise.

But, I had someone who was really mad at something I said (probably didn't like my facts to disprove his opinion-lol) and he began following me and making personal remarks. I hit the button when I see those. People need to be real careful when harrassing someone in a public arena. Steve, it's veiled, but what you said is downright mean. The mentality of those of which you challenge? A level playing field when it comes to intellect? Come on, dude, there are intelligent people all over this thread. Everybody has an opinion, they like who they like. Don't call somebody stupid because they don't agree with you. I saw a man trying to cross a busy five-lane road yesterday with two little kids, just a few feet from a legal crosswalk. They were standing in the middle lane with absolutely no hope of getting across. I would call that man stupid.

Here's a nice little fairy tale for your reading pleasure:
Depends on what you consider successful. Kind of like the analogy of what people consider peace. Civilized people consider that absence of conflict, calm, strength and victory over those who would try to take that away, being at peace.
Jihadist consider peace ridding the world of anyone who is an infidel, even if that means they have to kill to bring it about. That's peace to them.
Same with democracy. There are those who believe success is living in a land where opportunity abounds and anyone ragardless of race, creed, religion etc... can pursue their dreams. Good people among them take care of one another and those who can't help themselves.
Liberals, on the other believe that success is when the government supplies all your needs. All are equal. Equally poor, that is (although the kings of government live like kings). The end.

Oh, give me a break. I hate to tell you this, but we ALL should try to help people when they are down. It's not a party thing. And for you to lump the Democrats together like this is wrong. I would rather be a Democrat and help people who are down than to be a Republican and have no regard for them. You have proven my point by your comment.

Helping people when they are down should be a human instinct and something we should all want to do. As Americans, we are known for our compassion for people everywhere.
That desire however should be a choice, not forced by government. If a person is willing get up everyday and go to work, that person's property should be theirs to do with as they see fit. Redistribution is BS. I don't want Obama or anyone else in government telling me how to spend my money. Look at the sloppy way they already waste our money.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Steve and Andrew, biden makes how much and gave a whopping 1,200 last year. Al Gore gave .02% of his income to charity. Look at harry reid etc..And these are the people who lecture us. Compare that to Bush, Romney, and many more. I read the link and here's a good quote:
"If support for a policy that does not exist ... substitutes for private charity, the needy are left worse off than before. It is one of the bitterest ironies of liberal politics today that political opinions are apparently taking the place of help for others."
Tammy Osier
4:59 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2012
More...
-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).
-- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.
-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.
-- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.
-- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.
-- People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition.
These are proven statistical facts. No wonder we talk so much about liberals believing a farce and being the dumber for it. And before someone says "who proved it?", biden and company have had to answer to it and had some lame excuse. they never denied it, just made excuses for it, whic his to be expected.

Pam, we should, and really, most of us do ACROSS THE BOARD, but my tongue in cheek post says it all as to where we are now. I have friends of every persuasion, and I work side by side helping others with them. None of us considers political parties when doing so. But you just lumped Republicans as people who don't care, and I can prove that that ain't so at all. Generalizatons aren't accurate on either side. The problem is with or political system and what is has become. Btw...a democrat is not the same as a far left liberal (which is what I refer to), far right being no different. Wish we could finally meet again in the middle. That's when America was good.
What I won't take back is this- that if the FAR left has it's way to completion, socialism will be exactly as I described. Ask any country that went down this path. Communism is ugly. We have to guard our freedoms that we don't find ourselves too far gone. Equally poor is what they are in communist countries. That starts by...REdistribution from the government. Just something to think about.

So, you were an Obama supporter in 2008 and were full of hope because of the "Change" he promised. It's 2012 and he's running for re-elelction so let's check on how he implemented his changes in his 4-year term:
· Gitmo still being used to detain prisoners
· Signed reauthorization of the Patriot Act, signed NDAA,
· hasn't prosecuted one wrong doer in the bank bailout fiasco,
· Bringing no charges against bank executives that misused bailouts,
· Violated the War Powers Act of 1973,
· has killed thousands of innocent Pakistani women and children non-combatants with drone strikes,
· Renewing FISA and NSA’s unregulated spying and banking of all wireless communication,
· Granted immunity to CIA torturers,
· Continued military tribunals he vowed to end,
· Quadrupled the numbers of warrantless wiretapping since Bush era.
Doesn't sound like much of a change to me. If you are a Romney supporter, your candidate is no better. There is virtually no difference between the Democrats and the Republicans. Don't waste your vote on Obama or Romney.
Support the only candidate who wants to protect your liberties and rights, reduce the deficit, and actually bring "Change" - vote for Gov. Gary Johnson.

This election is way too important however. I, Libertarian, want someone like Gary Johnson and/or Paul to be President, and it might happen someday, but this election is too important. You're right that Republicans and Democrats are the same: Progressive. But when it comes to this election, a vote for Johnson or a write in for Paul is just another vote for Obama. Obama is the most dangerous president in US history, and we cannot afford another four years of him. Romney is ultimately the better choice here. At least consider this: our national debt was $10 trillion when Obama was sworn in January of '09. Now it's $16 trillion. How can Romney, someone who believes in capitalism and small business, possibly destroy our economy as bad as Obama, someone who DOESN'T believe in those philosophies?

I'm going to say something here and I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for it, but I want all of you to stop and think about it before responding. Some of you will lie because you don't want to be seen as a racist. Some of you, in your minds, will admit it. But if there was a white person in the White House, I don't think a lot of these comments would have been made. All the talk about welfare and food stamps is being pointed at blacks, in most people's minds. Obama is called the "welfare" President, but would a white President be called that? I'm sure there were a lot of people on welfare when Clinton was President, but the only bad thing most people could say about him was about the Monica fiasco. I will admit that when the blacks that I worked with during the last election said that they were voting for the first time because a black man was running it made me kind of mad. It's like they didn't care about this country until then. When Obama got elected, it was a big thing. Some people still haven't come to terms with it. Okay, fire away.

Flack? Sure. You never hear Conservatives bring up race. It's ALWAYS the left. So what the hell gives you people the feeling that Conservatives have a problem with one's skin color? If Bush had doubled the Welfare dole, you're damn right we would call him the same.
Do you people have ANYTHING other than skin color? Obama has NO record of positive results and everyday (LIBYA) it gets worse. What does this have to do with his white mother?
NOTHING! It seems as if you people are the ones taking issue with skin color.
Please try to be creative. The race card has been wrinkled, dog eared and flat worn out years ago. I don't choose my friends due to skin color nor do vote with that being the priority. You people really underestimate conservatives. Please just remember one thing... YOU'RE the one that voted for this idiot. You may want to look in the mirror.

Steve, every "conservative" I know moved away from areas where there were a lot of blacks. My former boss (a white lady who proudly said she was a Republican) didn't want to hire any blacks in our department. So, yes, my personal experience has been that conservatives have a problem with race. And President Obama is not an idiot. David, if the welfare costs had doubled during the Bush administration, Democrats would probably on here complaining about it and the Republications would be telling us what a wonderful President he was. Since I've been unemployed for nearly three years, I did look into welfare and food stamps (a whole new world for me). You really can't get welfare unless you have kids, which I don't have, so I wasn't approved. I have no problem with the government taking care of the kids. I couldn't get food stamps because the person I lived with at the time (my brother) had a job and they expected him to feed me. It actually asks, on the application, what race you are. Well, I was honest and put caucasian and got rejected. But there are a lot of people who need help right now and I honestly don't think we can blame it all on this President. It started with the housing meltdown and the credit card companies screwing with everybody. I'm not sure if any President could have prevented what happened. I can't even blame George Bush, who I really did not care for much. And believe me, I wanted to blame somebody and I still do. But now I blame the companies that are scared to hire people or who want to pay minimum wage and just hire you part-time. If that fright would go away if Romney gets elected, then maybe that should happen. But I don't think it will. It bothers me to think that people who really need help will stop getting it.

You say "I expect that you and I are never going to see eye-to-eye." Well, when it comes to Obama, I suppose not. I don't live in a box with my own simple opinion of Obama and I sure don't care what color he is. It's what the guys says and what he does that has me worried for my children and Grandchildren.
In the 2016 movie about Obama, he personally narrates about 1/3 of it. Another third shows videos of Obama speaking and another 15% shows interviews of relatives and people who know Obama. The rest is D'souza and some could be considered slanted in my opinion.

Pam, you talk about the companies afraid to hire. It's because of the liberal policies- not the man's race! Businesses cannot afford to pay for more employees when they are beign taxed to death! The part time problem is because of obamacare. They won't be able to stay in business. It's unintended consequences that occur wit h this type of policy. Socialism looks good on paper- seems like a good idea when you present it- but will not in reality work. Conservative thinkers know this. That's why they criticize the president and the crazy congress we have. I think he was controlled by this congress from the get-go and I wish he had had a thought of his own.
I don't understand why they ask about race on an application though. Probably for research purposes, but I don't think it's right. We need to stop all programs based on race and go back to merit. We should certainly have achieved our original purpose on that. Maybe then we'll get to a real place of success for everybody.
Pam J
8:48 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2012
Whatever. I think you are wrong about why companies are afraid to hire, but that's my opinion. On the welfare and food stamps applications, it did not say "optional".

To your comment "Businesses cannot afford to pay for more employees when they are beign (sic) taxed to death!"
You imply that this is a policy of the Obama administration (which it most certainly is not), when he, in February of this year, introduced a plan that would reduce the corporate tax rate to 28 percent. Republicans immediately derided the plan as "murky and ill-defined."
And to your pivot to socialism, that is ridiculous hyperbole. Obama is as much a socialist as Reagan was a Muslim.

Pam, are we SERIOUSLY talking about race in this whole equation? Our economy is currently where Greece was when it collapsed, Obama has raised our national debt the most of any other president (FACT), the Middle East is ready to strike against us and our allies, and you're saying we don't agree with Obama because he's black? It makes no sense whatsoever. The reason why different commentators say Obama is a food stamp or welfare president, is because HE has put more people on food stamps than his predecessor. If you believe calling him a welfare or food stamp president is racist, you should consider that maybe you are racist. I recommend that you rethink your argument before you form opinions after watching Hardball with Chris Mathews.
Pam J
9:13 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2012
Frank, I think that race is a big part of why Obama was elected. And the national debt went up over $5M during the Bush administration and that's about how much it's gone up during Obama's. And, yes, someone can probably stop the bleeding, but at what cost? How many people will be homeless? And how has HE put more people on food stamps? Because if I couldn't get them, it's telling me that it did not become easier under HIM. Believe me, if you have no money and no money coming in, does that not qualify you? Nope. And, yes, I believe that some people have a problem with Obama because he is black (or half black). I don't because I am not a racist, but I know people who are. But thanks for joining the Saturday night party!

Plain and simple: With the collusion of the moderator Obama covered up, or tried to cover up, the lie of the Libyan debacle.

Although that didn't seem to stop Obama and the stupid law allowing some illegal aliens to get work permits. But, there again, he couldn't do it alone. My example, Al Qaradawi, is the NINTH most influential Muslim on the EARTH and he's telling his followers to follow Hitler's footsteps. About Iran, the only people Iran has met with about nuclear weapons is Venezuela, and that's because they're assisting them in the creation of these nuclear missiles. If we meet with Iran, there is no doubt that they will not stop their pursuit of weapons. Bottom line, they won't stop at any costs until they make parking lots out of our country and Israel. Chris: If you took even a moment to research the military of Iran, you would notice that their WEAPONRY is almost completely defensive, such as a large amount of anti-aircraft artillery. A very large DEFENSIVE military. Other than guerilla warfare, Iran does not have a military capable of fighting on the offensive, other than throwing people at an offensive which it knows it wouldn't have the support of its people for.
So it's well prepared for being attacked, but Iran is not the kind of country that would be able to lead a solid offensive. As far as guerilla warfare, it doesn't need any of that directly. It still funds a lot of guerilla groups that do the fighting for it.

"Six Shihab-3 missiles, bearing the slogans "Israel must be wiped off the map" and "We will crush America under our feet," were the stars of the 22 September 2003 military parade in Tehran marking the anniversary of the start of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, the beginning of what Iran calls "holy defense" week. Other missiles displayed at the parade, according to state television on 22 September, were the Nazeat-6, Nazeat-10, Zezal, Maverick, Hawk, Tondar-69, Fateh-110, Scud B, SAM-6, surface-to-surface naval missiles, Fajr air-to-surface missiles, and long-range shore-to-sea missiles. On 21 September 2004, the IRGC held a parade in Teheran in which the force displayed the Shihab-2, Shihab-3, the Nazeat-6 and Nazeat-10, the Tondar-69 and the Zelzal missiles. On 22 September 2005, Iran conducted a military parade in which the missiles displayed included the Shahab-3, Zelzal 1 and Zelzal 2, M-11 Variant/Tondar-68, Nazeat and M-6. Hawk missiles were paraded, marked as Nazeat and Zelzal. Some of the missiles had banners saying, "Israel should be wiped off the map" and "We will trample America under our feet," "Death to America," and "Death to Israel."

I am also sick and tired of hearing how it's ALL the president's fault that Benghazi was attacked and four people were killed; yet here in our own country, with the world's highest ranked intelligence and strongest military, remarkably, not one single military or government official could figure out that (not one, but TWO) commercial airliners were flying in restricted airspace over New York City; arguably one of the most protected airspaces in the US. But do the republicans ever bemoan the fact that, while under the leadership of the Dubya, nearly THREE THOUSAND American men, women and children were killed? Never. Oh, no. That was not Dubyas fault, or the fault of the military that just happened to be out on a "training exercise" that this unfolded. Just another representation of the hypocrisy. If this had happened under Obama, the right would be making the biggest stink imaginable! Same as if Obama's child was the one to made such an immature, rude comment like Taggart Romney about wanting to attack the president, OMG, can you imagine the backlash?

The 9/11 Commission determined that on the morning of September 11, the FAA did not adequately notify NORAD of the hijackings of Flights 11, 175, 77 or 93 in time for escort aircraft to reach the hijacked flights. How can you blame Bush for that?
No fly zone? You are full of it. New York's La Guardia airport is only 9 miles away from where the World Trade Center stood.
As for Benghazi. Obama and his administration LIED to the US citizens by trying to make it look like a protest over a clip on YouTube. In addition someone in his administration refused to add more security to the embassy despite numerous requests for more security.

Get a grip. No one blames Obama for the attack. He is being blamed for literally framing an innocent American (the movie producer) to protect his chances for reelecton
Eventually he allowed Hillary to take the rap for the cover-up.
Eventually still, he, with the collusion of a moderator of a debate contending for the Office of the Presidency the USA, undermined the very electoral process to go so far to even attempt to cover-up the cover-up.
i've never been a fan of Bush Jr---in fact voted against him---but at least he immediately flew back to Washington from Florida on 9/11 while Obama on---our---day with destiny flew from Washington to Nevada; and not to pursue the defense of the USA, but to continue stumping for office obviously confident that framing the innocent American, with the obvious support of the media, would work.
You did see this evenings deliberatey belated news? Didn't you?
I am an Independent, and more sick of people pretending Bush Jr is running against Obama, is the people, like yourself, who would ignore even a President of the USA framing an American---or anyone esle for that matter---to save his own, merely political skin.
It must be quite a catharsis for you, a true-believer, having to witness your emperor with no clothes.

3dn and Andrew, I have the timeline that showed that under Clinton the CIA and FBI were inable to connect due to some policy changes. We might have connected the dots had those two been able to communicate. That's been given as a part of the reason several times. Yes, policy does have to do with it. Hind sight is 20/20 but hte criticism of obama has been man times is that his prioroties were to get elected. The problem with campaigning as president is you still have to do your job. As far as lying...biden said no, obama and the state department said yes. One is right- can't be both.

And for the record....take a look. Bush was criticized constantly as well as denigrated by the the left. He didn't get a pass, but under him we had 5% unemployment until democrats took over the house and senate. Republicans did go along with them, so you can blame both on the current crisis. Bush did try to stop it, but he didn't use his veto pen enough.
Pam J

Our unemployment rate has very little to do with the President. The problem is because of the housing boom, then the housing meltdown and credit cards lowering everybody's limits to basically what they owed, therefore lowering their credit scores. I don't blame any of that on any President. I blame it on people who did not use common sense. Sure, I blame Bush for the mess in Iraq, but I don't even blame him for 9/11. It was inevitable that something like that would happen as long as we believed we were invincible.
Andrew Blawat

The housing boom was caused by the Democrat majority in Senate and Congress in 2007. McCain and Bush pushed a Senate Bill to reign in the amount of risk Fannie and Freddie were undertaking. Barney Frank and Maxine Waters accused them of being racists and not wanting poor people to own a home, They decided home ownership was a new American "right", just like health insurance. You are correct, the housing meltdown did start this mess, and Dodd and Frank were responsible for it.

With all due respect, I'm trying to determine the objective of the fear tactics some of you seem to be employing with regards the Middle East. Are you advocates of starting World War III, or do you wish to commit genocide against the people of Iran?
@Brian is correct, Iran's military capability is largely defensive. And should they attack another country in the ME that is an ally of ours, the stated position of the United States is to provide assistance to our allies.
And Ms. Osier...Iran will not "come after" the United States. From a diplomatic standpoint, they have only Russia and China as "allies" in the United Nations, and these countries' intransigence over sanctions would evaporate instantly if Iran took any sort of action against us. They would be completely alone, and they know it.
Your implication that the United States has somehow abandoned Israel is, regrettably, laughable. There has been no change in US policy toward this ally for many years, and that is the key point your misdirection ignores.

GM- Make no mistake. Yes, Iran is stupid enough to attack Israel and the US. From Iran's perspective, this is a Holy conflict. They believe Allah will allow them to prevail no matter the circumstances. Iran has many long range missiles that cannot be considered "defensive" weapons. While they won't have missile capabilities to reach our shores for three more years, they are well enough equipped to attack any of our bases in the Middle East. Obama has already proven he is too lax to be trusted with the defense of our MI bases.
Those three years will pass quickly and Iran will have the capability of missile launches to our shores. Whoever wins this election will be the one in the hot-seat to handle the crisis. You better pray that Romney is in charge then and not Obama. Romney is the only candidate that our military can trust to allow them to do what they do best.

Open Your Eyes, once I muted the rap music, I paid attention to the video. Sure, it has good points, but it's not realistic because as long as the lower-class and middle-class pays a higher percentage of tax, there will be problems. It really does have to start with the wealthy. I have no problem with wealthy people because I hope to be one some day, but Romney bothers me because he decided he didn't want to pay any tax and he put his money in offshore accounts. So he certainly understands the tax situation and he chooses to pay as little as possible. If you know the country you are running for President for is in trouble, why would you try and dodge something that may help just a little bit. In order for the lower-class and middle-class to "thrive", the upper-class have to give a little more. I am so tired of seeing the so called "stars" begging you to give money to animal abuse prevention and children starving in other countries. I don't need some millionaire asking me to donate money to these causes, albeit trying to make me feel guilty if I don't. A poor animal will die or thousands of children will die.

Couldn't have said it better. You know, years ago, Ross Perot ran and a part of me wished that he had gotten it. When debating, he made more sense than anyone else. Maybe we can find out when Romney gets in. A little weary of senators. I think the prerequisite for running ought to be prior military service and having been a governor. A governor has dealt with many entities (Senators, the federal government, and other governors) and will have successes or failures to follow. In other words...experience.
