Sixth grade students at Holy Spirit Preparatory Lower School dedicated their artwork to “11 Modern Masters” in their annual show, recently. Students were inspired by Matisse, Pollock, Warhol, Mondrian, Miro, Johns, Calder, Duchamp, Bearden, Bourgeois, and Picasso. “All year we have been teaching about these modern artists that were on display at the High Museum for the better part of the school year,” said art teacher Esther Francis, in a press statement. “We touched on their artwork, techniques, mediums, and anything else that inspired the feel of the artist.”

Act 3’s production of “Steel Magnolias” runs through Sunday.
It’s common for newcomers to Act 3 Productions theater to say, “I had no idea this was here.” The award-winning playhouse is located on the backside of Sandy Springs Plaza. “We want Sandy Springs residents to know that we are here and think of us as a destination place,” said Sandy Deebel, development director. Act 3’s production of “Steel Magnolias” runs through Sunday. Twenty-three-year-old Sydney Mitchell who practically grew up performing in the production company, directs the show. Her mother, Johnna Mitchell plays Ouiser Boudreau, portrayed by Shirley MacLaine in the 1989 film. Five Cobb County moms with a theater background or passion, including Johnna Mitchell, started Act 3 Productions around 1999. “Act 3 was just moms, who were…

The film is playing at Lefont Sandy Springs and UA Perimeter Pointe 10.
Zac Efron plays Logan, an Afghanistan war veteran on his third tour, who comes across a picture of a woman who inspires him to search for her, stateside, in "The Lucky One." His search lands him at a kennel in Louisiana owned by Beth (Taylor Schilling) and her grandmother, Ellie (Blythe Danner). He gets a job there and, over a period of time, settles in, still not telling anyone his real reason for being there. As you might imagine, sparks start to fly. "The Lucky One" is a Nicholas Sparks movie. He's good at this kind of thing, writing books that turned into movies like "Message in a Bottle," "Nights in Rodanthe" and "The Notebook." This film, in my opinion, is one of his better stories. And, with an attractive young cast, it should be …

Movie Reviewer: The Three Stooges get a new look with some fresh new faces, and no one is laughing.
From the people who brought you "There's Something About Mary" and "Dumb & Dumber" comes the much anticipated movie about three morons in "The Three Stooges." It's Larry, Moe, and Curly 2.0. This time around Larry is played by Sean Hayes, Moe is Chris Diamantopoulos, and Curly is Will Sasso. Filmmakers spent two days shooting scenes at the Huntcliff Club in Sandy Springs, last summer. The film is three episodes drawn into one 90-minute movie. The Stooges do what they can to try to save the orphanage they grew up in. This movie has been talked about for more than 10 years now and, sad to say, it's pretty anticlimactic. I was never a real big fan of the original Stooges, and it's pretty safe to say that these three were doing impressions …

If you were never a fan in the first place you have no frame of reference for the review. Maha. Aha. Curly: Hittin' a guy with glasses, huh? That said (and only understood by Stooges aficionados), trying to make a film that captures the originals is a challenge that his hard to hit. The film was okay but not wonderful. The cast was interesting and amusing. The disclaimer at the end was the best …   more ›
