Recent shooting events raise serious questions concerning not only how do we prevent such a tragedy but also how would we respond if it happened to us?
The attached Youtube video addresses a workplace active-shooter scenario and provides common sense information that could very well save lives in such an incident.
This is an excellent video that was done by the City of Houston, Police Department with a grant from the US Department of Homeland Security. It’s been approved by Law enforcement agencies all of the country including the Department of Homeland Security and the Sandy Springs Police Department.
In most cases, active shooters use firearms and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly.
FEMA is offering a free online course(http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is907.asp) IS-907 – Active Shooter: What You Can Do. The course should take less than 45 minutes and upon completing it, you will be able to:
1. Describe actions to take when confronted with an active shooter and responding law enforcement officials.
2. Recognize potential workplace violence indicators.
3. Describe actions to take to prevent and prepare for potential active shooter incidents.
4. Describe how to manage the consequences of an active shooter incident.
