Backstage Blog---Behind the scenes at Act3 Playhouse
First in a Series
By Bailey Mitchell
I arrived at the Act3 Playhouse with my mom early in the afternoon. She felt like I would want to get the lay of the land before my big stage debut.
I am honored to be playing “Bruiser” in MAT Award-winning Act3’s (apparently that’s how we refer to the theater) production of "Legally Blonde."
Might I say, “Oh my God!!” I bounded out of the Mini Cooper and up the stairs into what I pray will be my second home, so excited I peed a little. (Sorry, Michelle Peck.)
After a lovely dinner at Meehan’s pub with Mom and Dad, where I warranted just the right amount of affection from staff and patrons, it was time! My very first rehearsal!!
Okay, I was a bit clingy at first, but the cast and crew were divine! Kisses were abundant and I re-bonded with my old friends, Maggie, Daniel and Jesse.
Director Patti Mactas seemed thrilled with my presence and I tried not to be a bother, even though my cuteness distracted some Delta Nus. Music Director Jenn Loudermilk warned all to be aware that despite my magnetic nature, there was work to be done.
I tried to stay calm, but hopping, panting, licking and cuddling are just what I do! Clearly, I have my work cut out for me. As I study the character of Bruiser, I know it will be tough to rise to the challenge of LEAD role in my first production. But, I can do this. I know it! And, the directors are all in my corner, I can sense it.
There was an instant feeling of family as I pranced through those double doors of the Act3 Playhouse. I cannot explain just why, but everyone involved in this production seems to form a unique community…one where human and canine are one….and the possibilities are endless.
