Candidate brings in $73,627 for first quarter of year
Sandy Springs' Josh Belinfante raised $73,627.92 in this year's first quarter to take the lead among candidates seeking the GOP nomination for the State Senate District 6 seat. Belinfante had raised $202,985 for his campaign through March 31, according to the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission website. He has more than 500 supporters, according to a news release from his campaign. Candidate Hunter Hill, the leading fund-raiser through the last quarter of 2011, raised $52,260 for the first quarter of 2012, bringing his total contributions to $196,765, according to his campaign report filed with the campaign finance commission. From Patch Reports Newt Gingrich's Southern strategy sputtered Tuesday, as Rick Santorum won the Mississippi and Alabama primaries. Gingrich's second-place finishes in those states after wins in Georgia and South Carolina intensified pressure for him to leave the race, in which Mitt Romney leads in total delegates and Santorum has put together a string of wins. Sandy Springs voters chose GOP Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Super Tuesday. The former House speaker vowed to stay in the race, despite the disappointing finishes, as the New York Daily News reported. Newt Gingrich won the Georgia Primary but Sandy Springs voters chose GOP Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Super Tuesday. Gingrich placed second over Rick Santorum, who was a distant third. Voter turnout out was low. The highest percentage of active to registered voters reached 32 percent at the Riverwood High School precinct. Georgia was among 10 states selecting delegates Tuesday. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won in Virginia, Vermont, Massachusetts, Idaho and Alaska. Residents told Patch they cast their votes in Tuesday's Georgia Presidential Preference Primary for the candidate they believed most represented their conservative values. Still, many told Patch they are looking forward to the November election, acknowledging they have grown weary of the negative discourse among the GOP Presidential candidates. Mitt Romney is beating Newt Gingrich in fundraising in metro Atlanta.
Super Tuesday is a day away, but so far Mitt Romney is beating former Georgia congressman Newt Gingrich in the money race in metro Atlanta. Romney has raised $746,951 from Atlanta area donors while Gingrich has raised $299,685, according to campaign finance reports. Patch has taken the latest fundraising reports from the Federal Election Commission and mapped them for the Atlanta area. A quick look at the mapped data shows that donations from the Buckhead area are stronger for Romney than for Gingrich. Both Romney and Gingrich have campaign headquarters in Buckhead. The latest analysis by the New York Time's Five Thirty Eight blog and Real Clear Politics both show Gingrich is very likely to win Georgia on Tuesday, but probably not with …
