Riverwood Senior Chosen for Internship in Belize

Bianca Williams, a Riverwood International Charter School senior, was accepted to the Spring Break 2014 KIPP Fine Arts Internship in Belize.  

KIPP is a Knowledge is Power Program that prepares students in underserved communities for success in college and life, according to its website. 

Bianca is an alumni of KIPP South Fulton Academy, a charter middle school. She competed against 14 other alumni to be one of two high school students chosen for the prestigious spring break internship.  

Bianca will travel to Punta Gorda, Belize in April 2014 with 25 other KIPP South Fulton Academy students and faculty.  

The international trip is an outreach of the KIPP South Fulton Academy Fine Arts Department in partnership with the James Arthur Albert Foundation (www.HelpingBelizeKids.org).  

The students will serve several different schools in Punta Gorda doing everything from maintaining the grounds to creating a soccer camp.  A major focus of the visit is creating a fine arts festival where the students will teach theatrical improvisation, choreography, and music.  

Bianca will lead an interactive music group featuring Belizean drummers. She will also be able to share her experiences of playing the bass clarinet in the Raider Band. The trip will also include some touring opportunities such as a day at the beach, snorkeling, a visit to Mayan ruins and possibly a hike in a rain forest.
