Registration Open: New Feature in Upcoming Sandy Springs Lightning 10K/5K

A new feature in the 2013 Doug Kessler Sandy Springs Lighting 10/5k features a race for parents with children, in the Stroller Division, with awards for the Top 3 male and female finishers with strollers. Stroller runners will have a delayed start time to ensure safety from the crowd at the start line of both races, an announcement said.

The 10K and 5K races kick-off the Sandy Springs Festival, Saturday, with a 7:30 a.m., start time for the 10K race and 7:50 a.m. start time for the 5K race. The race start line is at the Hitson Activity Center at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, 86 Mount Vernon Highway.

Both the 5K and 10K courses are USAT-F Certified and the races feature chip timing to electronically record the runners’ times. The race is a Peachtree Road Race Qualifier. 

Runners can register in advance online at www.sandyspringslightning.com until 6 p.m., Wednesday. Runners can also register the day of the race at 6:30 a.m. at the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church Activities Center Parking Lot (85 Mount Vernon Highway). Day-of registration is $35 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K. Racers receive a complimentary high performance technical t-shirt, free entry into the Sandy Springs Festival with their race shirt, and giveaways from race sponsors.

The Sandy Springs Festival is held at Heritage Green, 6075 Sandy Springs Circle and the surrounding area.  Festival dates and hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday. Tickets are $5 for Adults (age 18+) and $2 for Youth (ages 6 – 17).  Children ages 5 and under and Heritage Sandy Springs Members are free.  Two-day passes are also available for adults ($7) and youth ($3).
