Dakoro Edwards is hyped. His work is featured in a local showcase by Los Angeles-based, RAW: Natural Born Artists.
"I have a few new paintings that I'm doing for this competition," Edwards said. "I've let people see bits and pieces and they love it, but you know I've got to keep something up my sleeve."
Surprisingly Edwards never went to school for art. He says it's just in his blood. The abstract artist operates a Sandy Springs barbershop where he often paints in between appointments. His work has been featured at the National Black Arts Festival and the Emerging Art Scene Gallery in Atlanta.

The RAW event is an avant-garde multimedia showcase competition of visual artists, filmmakers, musicians, photographers, hairstylists and make-up artists. It will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight on Nov. 14, at King Plow Arts Center in Atlanta.
RAW was started in 2005 by Heidi Luerra to give young artists a platform for their work. Showcases are held in several cities where judges select one artist in each category to compete in a finals competition in Hollywood, Calif.
