Shows to Benefit Abused Female Vets

East Cobb connections are involved in performances of "The Vagina Monologues" at the Act3 Playhouse in Sandy Springs.

Act3 Productions in Sandy Springs will present The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler this Sunday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 8 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit the Mary Hall Freedom House and its joint effort with Chayil Inc. to assist female veterans who have suffered the violence of sexual or physical abuse while serving our country.

The performances will take place at Act3 Playhouse, Sandy Springs Plaza, 6284-R Roswell Rd. Tickets range from $10 to $25 and are available at www.act3productions.org.

Act3's all-female cast brings together popular Atlanta theater actresses, plus the founders of Mary Hall Freedom House and Chayil Inc., Lucy Gainer-Hall and Heidi Day, and two of Act3's founding "drama mamas," artistic director Patti Mactas and choreographer Johnna Mitchell, both East Cobb residents.

Three other East Cobb performers, Sydney Mitchell, Ansley Gwynn and Maggie Taylor, are graduates of .

The Vagina Monologues began 14 years ago in the basement of a downtown New York cafe and today it has become a national phenomenon. The monologues, which give voice to testimonials from women all over the world, are emotional, inspiring, heartbreaking, angry, hilarious, frank and raw.

The show has been performed by Jane Fonda, Oprah Winfrey, Glenn Close and Calista Flockhart, as well as mothers, daughters, sisterhoods and college students in more than 20 cities and on more than 200 college campuses.

Another Walton grad and East Cobb resident, Maggie Taylor, is also participating in this show. She was inadvertently left off the release.
