Successful Act 3 Play Closes, For Now

The future seems bright for the musical. The Sandy Springs production added two shows to it's sold out run, before it closed last week.

 

“By Wheel and By Wing,” Act 3’s heartwarming musical closed last weekend, but artistic director, Patti Mactas, believes the production’s future is bright.

, who escaped to Russia from the Ukraine during the Holocaust. By the end of standing ovations on opening night, last month, the audience and cast members were in tears.

Nine high school students, following a workshop with playwright Corey-Jan Albert, wrote the play.

In a note thanking the community for support of the production, Mactas said audience response to the play was the greatest since the theater opened its doors in 2010. Shows sold out, two performances were added, along with an emotional song.

In addition, Mactas says, that a representative from Alliance Theatre has expressed interest in the play. She added, “We are looking for others' support to continue developing and marketing 'By Wheel and By Wing.' ”

An anonymous donor helped to fund the production with a $30,000 donation following a stage reading in May 2011.
