Miss USA at Perimeter Mall's Von Maur, Saturday

Just in time for the shopping season.

Von Maur, the upscale department store anchor that's been under construction at Perimeter Mall for a long time will open Saturday with a bunch of special treats and events for its grand opening.

Olivia Culpo, Miss USA 2012, will make an appearance in the shoe department from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

The Davenport-Iowa-based store has been compared to Nordstrom and Bloomingdales.

The store has spread over the Midwest but has made a push into the south.The store has another location, nearby Sandy Springs at North Point Mall in Alpharetta. Von Maur is known in the retail business for its no-interest credit card, free shipping and gift wrapping.

Enough of the business.

For the grand opening, the store is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and features live music, entertainment for children, "designer events" and gifts with purchases, according to its website. People can also register to win a $1,000 shopping spree.

Check the websites for the specifics, but there are a lot of events going on and the above is a summary. For instance they will have a magician roaming the store, as well as face painters and balloon artists to keep kids entertained.
