No Change In Sandy Springs Unemployment Rate

The city's rate in March did not move from 5.5 percent, which was the same rate calculated in February.

The city of Sandy Springs did not see any changes in its unemployment rate last month, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

The rate remained at 5.5 percent in March, the same rate it calculated in February. At this same point last year, the rate stood at 6.1 percent.

The city's rate also remains below the metro Atlanta region's rate of 6.8 percent in March, which was down a hair from 6.9 percent in February. A year ago, the rate stood at 8 percent.

Metro Atlanta employers created more jobs and laid off fewer workers last month, the labor department said.

The number of Metro Atlanta jobs (2,427,100) rose 0.7 percent from February (2,409,600), and new unemployment claims fell from 17,897 to 13,982. Most of the job gains came in leisure & hospitality, professional & business services, and trade, transportation & warehousing, the labor department said.

The jobless rate in Georgia fell last month, too.
