City Sends Mixed-Use Luxury Apartments Issue Back to Planning Commission

City of Sandy Springs staff recommends approval of rezoning for the Roswell Road project that would raze Chastain and Versailles apartments and bring in luxury apartments and 125,000 square feet of retail and office space.

July 16 will be the earliest possible date that Sandy Springs City Council will vote on rezoning for the huge mixed-use development planned for Roswell Road near Windsor Parkway. On Tuesday, Council members sent the rezoning measure back to the Planning Commission for further consideration of its recommendation.

The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m., Thursday, at City Hall.

City staff recommends approval of rezoning for the project that would raze Chastain and Versailles apartments and bring luxury apartment units and 125,000 square feet of retail and office space, in their place. However, in May, The Planning Commission deferred its rezoning recommendation to City Council in order to give the developers and concerned neighbors time to work out their differences.

Last month, neighbors of a large new development proposed by JLB Partners asked Planning Commission members to be mindful of density before sending a vote of zoning approval to City Council.

Jane Kelly, who represents High Point Civic Association, Windsor Park Place HOA, and residents on Hedden Street has told city officials, “Our biggest worry is that if the city approves this density and variance here, they will cascade up Roswell Road like wildfire.” In other words, more multi-use projects to come.
