Former Riverwood Charter Principal Facing Criminal Charges

Eddie Echols resigned from the school last year after an audit revealed some financial irregularities.


The former principal of Sandy Springs' is now facing criminal charges.

The AJC is reporting that Eddie Echols is facing charges of theft, identity theft and credit card fraud. Fulton County Schools spokesperson Samantha Evans confirmed to Reporter Newspapers that the Fulton County District Attorney has charged Echols with identity fraud, theft by taking, and financial transaction card fraud.

The media outlet also said that Echols turned himself into authorities last month.

, an audit of Riverwood found that Echols used a school American Express Card for personal use and later reimbursed the school, at least in part. The auditor could not be certain because a detailed list of the reimbursed items was not provided by Echols.

A letter obtained by Channel 2 indicated that Echols admitted to investigators he had used the card to pay for personal expenses, including to buy tickets for his wife to attend a conference with him. The letter also indicated Echols said he had encountered difficult financial circumstances.
