Sandy Springs Motorists Should Avoid I-285, This Weekend

The left three lanes on both eastbound and westbound 285 will be closed.

Weekend road construction projects will hit both I-285 and Ga. 400 this weekend.

Sandy Springs motorists will want to stay away from 285. The left three lanes on both eastbound and westbound 285 will be closed for slab rehabilitation and patching between Ashford Dunwoody Road and Chamblee Tucker Road. The work will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and go until 5 a.m. Monday .

This past weekend, three right lanes of eastbound 285 were closed, causing major backups on Ashford Dunwoody Road and Chamblee Dunwoody Road, among other streets.

“The weather looks promising for a lot of work this weekend,” said DOT District Construction Engineer Lee Upkins in a press release. “All I can say to motorists is to plan ahead or plan for traffic delays.

On southbound Georgia 400, the inside left lane will be closed Friday at 9 p.m. until Saturday at 5 a.m. to install overhead signs and a barrier wall.

GDOT has plans to mill and inlay 6.43 miles of 285 from Ashford Dunwoody Road to Chamblee Tucker Road. The total cost of the project is $10.9 million.
