Robert Montigel of Roswell announced this week his candidacy for US Congress, District 6.

The district has been represented by Tom Price, R-Roswell, since 2005. In 2012, Montigel ran an unsuccessful campaign to represent District 6, which consists of portions of northern Fulton County, northern DeKalb County and eastern Cobb County.

All or portions of the cities Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Doraville, Brookhaven, Chamblee and Tucker are included in the district.

According to his press release announcing his candidacy, Montigel has lived in Roswell for more than 20 years, has been married to his wife Maryann for 43 years, and has two sons and two grandchildren.

The Democrat is a small business owner with more than 40 years business experience. He received his BS in Economics from Lehigh University and MBA in Finance from Columbia University.

In a video posted on his webpage (montigelforcongress.com) Montigel stated: “Congress is broken and our Congressman Tom Price is one reason why. We need people in Congress free from special interests, thoughtful and willing to compromise. Together we can begin to change Congress. I feel it is my duty to try”

In the release, Montigel has pledged not to accept any special interest money. He believes that with the help of social media and a network of supporters that his message of hope will reach the voters. He is a fiscal conservative but is concerned about social issues.

He believes in individual, but also social responsibility. He also believes that we can reduce our deficit and eventually the national debt by focusing on all spending, including what Simpson and Bowles call tax spending. This can be done while maintaining important programs such as Medicare and Social Security.
