Local Chiropractor Encourages a Healthy Community

National Public Health Week (NPHW) last week, 'Empowering a Healthy Community'- was Friday's theme. Elite Chiropractic is actively involved with encouraging a healthier community in Metro-Atlanta.

Communities across the country observed National Public Health Week (NPHW) last week. On April 5, 2013, the focus was on 'Empowering a Healthy Community'- the future of health lies in the hands of those packed with the resources, and opportunities to make lasting change.

This year's NPHW theme—"Public Health is ROI: Save Lives, Save Money"—promotes the value of prevention and the importance of well-supported public health systems in preventing disease, saving lives and curbing health care spending. The chiropractic profession as a whole has promoted aspects of health and wellness, for more than 100 years. More and more research is becoming available demonstrating that chiropractic services reduce health care spending.

What has Elite Chiropractic done to help encourage a healthy community? By participating in local elementary schools "Science Nights" and "Family Fitness Nights"- the younger generation is motivated to life active, healthy lifestyles. Volunteer opportunities speaking at local organizations and workplaces with tips to healthily manage stress, engages attendees on health & prevention efforts. Partnered events with local 5Ks & Health Fairs; for example those held within the campuses of Georgia Perimeter College, encourage students on health efforts and engaging in physical activity in safe outdoor environments. Erika Henry, DC mentions "The overall goal when participating in community sponsored events is to inspire proper health and wellness promoting lasting change."

"By choosing to life an active-healthy lifestyle- properly utilizing stretches and exercises- one can help reduce pain, illness & injury. At Elite Chiropractic, we take time to talk with our patients about steps to take to achieve optimal health, wellness and functioning" Says owner & chiropractor Erika E. Henry, DC "We offer natural and affordable approaches to pain relief, that can help patients avoid unnecessary drugs or surgeries."

The first full week of April was declared NPHW by the American Public Health Association (APHA) in 1995- ever since, communities across the country have recognized the contributions of public health and highlighted issues important to improving public health. APHA even has a section devoted to chiropractic and the role that DCs play in public health.
