Riverwood, North Springs Are America's Most Challenging Schools

Nine north Fulton County high schools were placed on the list compiled by the Washington Post.

Two Sandy Springs schools have been recognized for their academic rigor.

Riverwood International Charter School and North Springs Charter High School have been named to the America's Most Challenging High Schools list published by The Washington Post. Both Riverwood and North Springs made the list in 2013.

Riverwood ranks second among Fulton County high schools and 10th of Georgia high schools in the list. It's overall rank is 237. North Springs sits at 659 overall, but is listed as 29 in Georgia.

The index formula used for the rankings measures public and private high schools’ ability to challenge their students. A school’s ranking is determined by dividing the number of college-level tests given by a school to all its students by the number of graduates for that year.

Only 9 percent of the roughly 22,000 public high schools earned placement on the 2014 list.

Other Fulton County high school listings include: Alpharetta at 220; Northview is 250; Milton at 269; Chattahoochee at 272; Roswell at 390; Johns Creek at 486; and Centennial at 716.

When narrowed down to Georgia, Alpharetta ranks at No. 8; Northview is 12; Milton is 13; Chattahoochee clocks in at 14; Johns Creek is listed at 23; Roswell comes in at 21; and Centennial sits at 34.
