Northside Hospital Hosts 9th Annual Atlanta Walk to Remember

Although the event receives strong support from the Sandy Springs hospital, anyone whose life has been touch by perinatal loss, regardless of where, is invited to participate.

In recognition of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month in October, Northside Hospital will present the 2013 Atlanta Walk to Remember, on Sunday, Oct. 6, from  2-4 p.m., at Riverside Park in Roswell.

Parents, families, friends and health care professionals are encouraged to attend to remember the babies that they’ve lost and help raise public awareness of pregnancy and infant loss, a media announcement said.

"This event is an opportunity for parents to commemorate their loss with the support of family and friends," said Melissa Petersen, clinician, Northside Hospital H.E.A.R.T.strings and Perinatal Loss Office.  "Many people join this community not by choice but by circumstance.  It is a great day to come together not only to remember but to celebrate our babies."

Each year, more than 250 people register to participate in the event, which will begin with a short program, followed by a three quarter-mile walk through the park. Although the event receives strong support from Northside Hospital, anyone whose life has been touch by perinatal loss, regardless of where, is invited to participate, the statement said. Children are welcome.

The event is free to participate; however, donations will be accepted.  T-shirts and car magnets also will be available for sale at the event.  Proceeds help to keep the event free.

Riverside Park is located at 575 Riverside Road in Roswell.  For more information about perinatal loss and the Atlanta Walk to Remember, to register for the walk or to make a donation, please call the Northside Hospital H.E.A.R.T. strings/Perinatal Loss Office at 404-851-8177 or visithttp://www.northsidepnl.com.
