The Sandy Springs Police Department is offering informative and educational classes to the public. We believe an informed and educated public makes for a safer city.

One of the more popular classes we offer is the .  The class is specifically designed for ladies from age 13 and older. It is held one Thursday a month from 6-8 p.m. at the SSPD. The class is limited to 20 participants and there is a short waiting list. [See the attached flyer.]

The first part of class is a presentation on crime that gets your attention and puts you in the correct mindset. The rest of the class teaches you the physical responses needed to protect yourself and to give you the confidence to know you can survive and get away in case of an attack.

As with all of the classes we offer, the date changes from month to month. If you are interested, please send me an email at ljacobs@sandyspringsga.gov. I will put you on the waiting list and will contact you several weeks before your class with a date.

Another class we offer is the which is held once a month on a Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Sandy Springs Gun Club and Range. This class includes a Power Point presentation where we expose you to liability, safety and explain the Georgia concealed weapons permit. We also do live fire on the range and let you experience the SSPD’s Firearms Training Simulator.  This class also has a waiting list.

Finally, our newest class is the Children’s Safety Class. This class is held one Thursday per month from 6-8 p.m. at SSPD headquarters. The class is designed for 8 to 12-year-olds and requires a parent or legal guardian be present. The class specifically educates the children and parents on anti-child abduction and anti-bullying.

Due to the overwhelming response for the Children’s Safety Class, we are currently signing up only Sandy Springs residents.

All of these classes are taught by Sandy Spring Police Officer’s with many years of experience. They have backgrounds in Defensive Tactics and Firearms Training.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to be placed on the waiting list.
