Wow. Rehearsals are really heating up for 'Legally Blonde' at Act3 Productions!
We are almost to the “tech” rehearsal, where the technical elements such as lighting, costumes, microphones and props are added to this fantastic spectacle of a musical! Though some think I am a prop, I consider myself just as important to the production as the two-legged members of this diverse, dynamic and amazingly talented cast! However, I am mostly intrigued by two of my fellow actors – one human, one canine.
I adore Sam Gross. Sam is different than other humans. He is a member of the ensemble, which means he is in several scenes, playing different characters. His unique presence is noticeable in all that he does. He takes his job as an actor, singer and dancer very seriously, which is one of the qualities I admire the most about Sam, though there are many attributes to praise.
Despite the fact that Sam has challenges that other cast members do not, he knows every bit of his blocking, every dance step, every note of melody and harmony and has never once missed an entrance. You could even say he is “doggedly determined” to get every detail of his performance just right. Sam is a Rock Star with a giant heart! I am honored to share the stage with him.
Then, there’s my fellow canine co-star, Sparticus (“Sparty”) Peck. I admire him as well. After all, this is not his first rodeo; he’s been in off-Broadway productions, for heaven’s sake. But, my admiration of him is well-nigh approaching what we professional actors term as a “show-mance.”
Sure, he is a bit older than I, but the years have certainly not taken a toll on his rugged good looks. Though I am tempted to see where this leads, I am committed to behaving in a professional manner (be still, my wagging tail). We are at crunch time and I need to focus on the task at hand: looking adorable and supporting lead actress Maggie Taylor. So, on we press. But after closing weekend, who knows?
