Backstage Blog--Behind the Scenes of 'Legally Blonde' at Act3 Playhouse

A look behind the scenes from the perspective of the 2 canine stars of Act3's upcoming production of 'Legally Blonde, the Musical.'

'Legally Blonde' Pooch dishes on rehearsals and production.

When a show opens, hopefully everything runs so smoothly that audiences become engaged in the moment unaware of all the stitching that is holding the skit together.

Blocking is a huge part of the stitching process. It is so much more than where you stand onstage. On a technical side, consideration must be given to sight lines and focus, but from an artistic standpoint, the motivation of movement is just as important to ensuring that your show remains honest, and your actors don’t look like robots.

A great director, such as Patti Mactas, will allow her actors to figure out their blocking organically with motivated movement, while still helping to ensure that all technical sight lines and pictures are framed to perfection. This is what we have focused on the last few days of “Legally Blonde” rehearsal, and I must say that I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this seamless piece.
As I looked proudly out into the empty house after a fulfilling Sunday rehearsal, something entrancing caught my eye. Her. The sparkling eyes, regal nose, and flowing white hair of Bailey. The most beautiful name I have ever heard. Who was this intoxicating creature? I had to get closer to her, but her assistant kept moving her about and lifting her up, always just out of my reach. I offered her one of my precious Beggin’ Strips, but it did not agree with her delicate feminine pallet. I am intent on wooing her though. I cannot wait until the next rehearsal when I will see her again.
