Doctor Arrested In Miami Extradited Back To Georgia

Sandy Springs police say Kelly Thrasher was transported on Wednesday by a commercial airliner from Miami to Atlanta and is now in the Fulton County Jail.

The Sandy Springs doctor wanted on identity theft charges for allegedly using another name to obtain a U.S. Passport is now back on Georgia soil.

Kelly Trasher was transported on Wednesday back to Atlanta without incident on board on commercial airliner, the Sandy Springs Police Department said in a press release. Detectives with the agency went to Miami to extradite Thrasher back to the city.

Thrasher is now in the Fulton County Jail and will have his first hearing at 11 a.m. Thursday at the county's Rice Street Jail. He was arrested on May 21 in Miami by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Thrasher was located and arrested in a Miami hotel room without incident. The doctor had about $30,000 in cash with him at the time of his arrest.

Sandy Springs police issued arrest warrants for Trasher on identity fraud and forgery in the second degree charges after he allegedly obtained the passport under another name.

The doctor initially arranged to turn himself in to Sandy Springs detectives earlier this week, but did not show up at the meeting

Thrasher was indicted in early 2013 on child molestation, sexual battery and aggravated sexual battery following a police investigation that started in November 2012.

Earlier this year, Thrasher was arrested and charged with practicing medicine without a license. That charge stems from complaints that Thrasher was seeing patients in his office, which violates the Georgia State Licensing Board's suspension of his license pending the disposition of the earlier cases.
