FBI: Wanted Babysitter Considered Armed and Dangerous

Authorities say Caris Ayala was babysitting an infant in her Sandy Springs apartment on Oct. 2, when she made an emergency call saying the five-month-old was unresponsive.

Authorities, including the FBI, continue to seek Caris E. Ayala for the October murder of a five-month-old boy in Sandy Springs.

A federal arrest warrant was issued for Ayala in the United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia on Oct. 24, after she was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. After the boy's death on Oct. 26, a felony murder warrant was issued for Ayala.

A statement on the FBI website says Ayala, age 24, 5-foot-4, and 140 pounds, should be considered armed and dangerous.

She was babysitting the infant in her apartment on Oct. 2 when she called authorities to report that the boy was unresponsive.

He was transported by ambulance to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta where it was determined that he had suffered a severe head/brain injury and was placed on life support. Sandy Springs Police Capt. Steve Rose said a hospital social worker contacted police Oct. 5. The infant removed from life support on Oct. 26.

Rose said police interviewed Ayala and the infant’s parents. Ayala’s attorney later contacted police saying he would bring her in - on Oct. 9, according to the FBI - instead Ayala fled.

Authorities believe she may have ties to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico. They also believe Ayala may be traveling with her husband Noe Castillo-Ramirez, and their 7-month-old baby in a black Toyota T-100 pick-up truck with Georgia license plates BKM9384. Castillo-Ramirez, who is wanted on a local arrest warrant and is charged with hindering the apprehension of a fugitive, is described as a Hispanic male, 5'10", 160 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a date of birth of April 25, 1980.
