In 2010, Sandy Springs Police Chief Jack McElfish was awarded the American Heart Association’s “Mission Award” in recognition of his efforts to promote CPR education.

Sandy Springs Fire Chief Jack McElfish has been selected as one of 10 national finalists for the 2012 Career Fire Chief of the Year Award.

The award, presented by "Fire Chief" magazine, honors one volunteer chief and one career chief for longtime dedication and leadership in the fire and emergency services, a city announcemet said.

Chief McElfish has more than 40 years of experience in the fire service. He served as a Fire Chief in several cities before arriving in Sandy Springs in 2006. McElfish was one of the first 12 fire chiefs in 2000 to receive the  “Designated Chief Fire Officer” by the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

He has received several other awards. In 2010, McElfish was awarded the American Heart Association’s “Mission Award” in recognition of his efforts to promote CPR education.

Selection criteria for the Career Fire Chief of the Year Award emphasize leadership, innovation, professional development, integrity and service to the public and contributions to the fire service as a whole, the statement said. The award is sponsored by Pierce Manufacturing.
