Sandy Springs Police Identify Victim in Saturday Morning Crash

A 36-year-old man was killed when his car struck a tractor trailer that had slowed due to a car bumper obstructing the roadway at I-285 and Roswell Road.

A Saturday morning two-vehicle crash left one person dead and several I-285 westbound lanes closed on Saturday.

Sandy Springs Police identified the victim as 36-year old Gerald D. Wallace of Norcross. Wallace was killed when his car struck a tractor trailer that had slowed due to a car bumper obstructing the roadway at I-285 and Roswell Road.

The accident happened about 7 a.m.

According to police, the bumper apparently dislodged from another vehicle, driven by 45-year old Ruben Vega, who struck the retaining wall just prior to this accident.

The driver of the tractor trailer truck slowed to a near stop at which time he was hit by the car driven by Wallace. Witnesses told police Wallace's vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact.

Ruben Vega has been charged with a lane violation and 2nd Degree Vehicular Homicide. The driver of the tractor trailer truck was not charged.
