North Springs Student in Police Custody; School Released from Lockdown

The student had a weapon and is expected to be charged.

North Springs High School was on a temporary lockdown this morning and a student was taken into custody.

About 10 a.m., police received a call regarding an armed student at the school. According to Sandy Springs Police Lt. Steve Rose, a student notified a teacher that he saw another student with a gun at the school bus stop.

The student, a juvenile, was spotted leaving the rear of the school gymnasium. He was taken into custody by police K-9 officers and school resource officers. The weapon was located and determined to be an Air Soft gun.

The student is in custody and expected to be charged. The school was released from lockdown about 10:45 a.m.

doesn't suprise me.....i went to north springs high school before it was a charter school......don't you recall a few years ago they had a teacher who was caught with weed in his car after search dogs sniffed it out while doing a search of the STUDENTS vehicles? the whole school is full of drug addict/alcoholic kids and teachers who dont care about their students except for a hand picked few they can send to american idol......

I know what you mean! That one teacher getting caught with weed and now an airsoft gun! What a crazy place! No other school in America is that bad. The community should close it down immediately! That's what happens at the most diverse school in the city - you get a bunch of hoodlums. I'll bet no one ever brought airsoft or paintball guns to Milton HS. That place is full of holy white angels!

I've had the pleasure of meeting very intelligent, talented students at North Springs. The diversity and closeness of some of them was refreshing and encouraging in this age of divisiveness that we live in. And thankfully, yesterday, a student was responsible and decided to alert a teacher to the student with the weapon before someone got hurt.

The first two comments listed on this page are indicative of the venomous people out there who have a need to communicate to the masses, without any facts or knowledge what so ever. It is because of people like Mark and Who Cares who continue to spit negativity based on their own inner insecurities or elitist validations. North Springs Charter High School is a school full of beautiful, intelligent and YES diverse young men and women, being trained to live in a world that embraces all of God's children and succeed in every social group imaginable, coupled with teachers who are dedicated, motivated and inspirational. Your personal comments are just that, YOURS, and people like you. Be sure of one thing Mark and Who Cares: The obvious hatred and disgust you spew in your comments towards this school will not hinder the continued success and power of the students, staff, teachers and parents of NSCHS, and for those who give any merits to what you say, are probably those who share your same disdain. Shame on you all. My name is : Malessa J. Devlin NSCHS Parent

Uh...so...ever hear of sarcasm? I thought it was obvious that I wasn't serious, Ms Devlin. Honestly, I tried to be as over the top as possible so as to not appear to be spewing "hatred and disgust". You should get out more - don't be so uptight.

Sometimes sarcasm doesn't hit the mark. No pun intended. The last line of your original comment indeed had me wondering if you were joking, Mark, but everything before that seemed to echo "Who Cares" comments. And I doubt he was joking.

I graduated from North Springs HS in 1969 and actually did bring a real gun to school one day. I had made a new stock in wood shop and wanted to show coach Mangum the result. He was, like, "Oh no! You can't bring that thing in here! Nice job on the wood though... Now get that thing back in your car before I get in trouble! The point of this to me is that things have changed a lot over the years. Let's face it, a person could do a lot more damage with a sharpened pencil than an air soft gun! This is making a big deal about nothing. School seems to be increasingly all about, "Sit down! Shut up! Do what you are told! Obey!" Big media plays along with this agenda by always telling us to be afraid of something. That way we are less likely to questions our leaders' actions. We are losing our freedom of choice. I sincerely hope they will not be too harsh in dealing with this young person.

Listen Tom. What you said was racist. No school is perfect. Just because some are black does not mean they are hoodlums. You're a hoodlum for saying shit like that.
