Police Department's Popular Women's Self-Defense Class Returns

Women take the Sandy Springs Police self-defense class for a variety of reasons.

 

Sandy Springs Police self-defense classes for women are back in session.

During the two-hour class, instructors demonstrate simple movements that can ward off attackers.

Women have taken the popular class for a variety of reasons. , a participant said she was partly motivated to take the class after her friend was carjacked in Atlanta's Virginia-Highland neighborhood. Another person took the class after co-workers warned her about walking in the parking deck during off hours, while talking on the phone.

The free classes are held 6-8 p.m., one Thursday per month. Currently there is a waiting list. If you are interested in signing up, email Police Officer Larry Jacobs, Sandy Springs Crime Prevention Specialist at LJacobs@sandyspringsga.gov.
