Father, Son Rescued After Falling Into Chattahoochee River

The family of three were canoeing along the Chattahoochee River when the father and son fell out of the boat.

A family of three enjoying a nice day on the Chattahoochee River had their trip cut short when two of the family members were dumped into the waters.

The family — made up of a mother, father and a son — was canoeing on the river when the father and son "fell out of the boat," said spokesperson Sgt. Ronald Moman with Sandy Springs police.

According to WSB-TV, family fell out of the boat while canoeing near Azalea Park.

Sandy Springs police and fire departments, as well as the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, all mobilized to find the two residents.

Fortunately, DNR officials found the pair near Habersham Waters Road, "wet, but okay," said Sandy Springs Capt. Steve Rose.

Moman said the father and son duo were treated on the scene by EMS personnel and later transported to a local hospital "as a precautionary measure against hypothermia."

The mishap remains under investigation.
