Sandy Springs Man Charged With Methamphetamine Trafficking Outside Metro Atlanta

Authorities found five pounds of raw methamphetamine with a street value of $100,000 in a Gordon County home.

 

A 20-year-old Sandy Springs man was arrested, Wednesday, about 70 miles from metro Atlanta for methamphetamine trafficking.

A press release from the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office said a joint investigation with several agencies led authorities to a private residence in the Sonoraville community, where they found five pounds of raw methamphetamine with a street value of $100,000.

The statement said Alexis Renteria Maldonado, of Sandy Springs, was arrested without incident.  Authorities found some of the methamphetamine in liquid form. They believe Maldonado was converting it into a solid form known as “ice,” when he was arrested. He has been charged with: Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Manufacturing Methamphetamine, and Possession of Methamphetamine With Intent to Distribute.

“I was especially pleased that this operation was not allowed to gain a foothold here before it was taken apart", said Sheriff Mitch Ralston.

The participating agencies included the GBI, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Union County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff's Major Crimes detectives and deputies from the Community Crime Prevention Unit.
