Police ID Victim from Chattahoochee River

The victim was visiting Roswell from Oregon.

Authorities have identified the victim who fell into the Chattahoochee River as Philip Ray Stonebrook, 67.

and , with the help of the , spent Wednesday afternoon searching for Stonebrook, an Oregon resident who was visiting Roswell.

Stonebrook and a friend had been kayaking on the Chattahoochee River. But when they stopped for lunch, Stonebrook - who was not wearing his life vest at the time - stood to exit the kayak and fell into the water when it turned over.

The friend found Stonebrook's life vest about 50 yards from where he fell in.

The call for help from a local resident originated off Riverside Road, near the federal park area of Ford Island Park and Roberts Drive.

Several local response units assisted Roswell in the search. Sandy Springs Police Department Spokesperson Steve Rose told Patch that they searched Morgan Falls Dam north using a river-response boat.
