Sandy Springs Police Seeks National Accreditation

Last month, the police department under went an intense certification inspection.

 

The Sandy Springs Police Department expects to learn if they will receive national accreditation from the Commission Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

The assessment team comprised of law enforcement professionals, arrived in Sandy Springs on April 15 to review over 400 agency files, including operating standards; and to ensure that the department maintains a comprehensive, well thought out, uniform set of written directives that meet an established set of professional standards.

By meeting these standards, the announcement said the department is able to reach several goals including:

  • Strengthening crime prevention and control capabilities;
  • Formalize essential management procedures;
  • Establish fair and nondiscriminatory personnel practices;
  • Improve service delivery;
  • Solidify interagency cooperation and coordination; and
  • Increase community and staff confidence in the agency.

The inspection process included a static display of equipment and vehicles, physical inspections of agency buildings, storage, administrative work areas, and operations areas including armory, and other secured storage facilities.

Team members also rode with officers to observe patrol functions as well as communication practices.

Before completing their review, the assessment team had an opportunity to meet with citizens during a public information session at police headquarters, and toured ChatComm.
