A Sandy Springs woman has been been charged with second degree vehicular homicide in connection with a weekend accident in East Cobb that killed the driver of an antique car.

Shaina Carter Fernandez, 28, turned herself into the Cobb Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, where she was also charged with three additional misdemeanors including following too closely, driver to exercise due care, and possession of marijuana.

Marietta resident Eddie B. Strickland, 67, died from injuries he suffered in the three vehicle accident that shutdown Paper Mill Road near the Atlanta Country Club for hours late Saturday afternoon.

According to Cobb investigators, a green 1929 Ford Model A operated by Strickland was traveling eastbound on Paper Mill Road, driving slowly up a steep grade when a silver 2008 Volkswagen Jetta hit the classic car from behind. The Jetta was driven by Fernandez.

That collision forced the Model A into the westbound lanes on the road, where it overturned and collided with a silver 2004 Toyota Sienna.

Strickland was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger, 67-year-old Lynn Strickland of Marietta, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
