Sandy Springs Woman Victim of Increasingly Common Money Scam

A Sandy Springs woman recently answered a Craigslist ad for employment and got scammed, according to information provided by Sandy Springs Police Capt. Steve Rose.

The contact name provided on the ad was Donald Scott. He told the victim that she qualified for the job and he would send a check to cover supplies.

She later received a check for $2,300. She was asked to wire back $1,900. She deposited the check in her account and withdrew $2,000 to take care of bills. She was later informed that the check she deposited was fraudulent and she was now overdrawn. She had not yet wired the money to Mr. Scott.

Various money scams have become increasingly common. In October a for a stranger she met in a Fresh Market parking lot.
