Drug Raid in Sandy Springs

The Atlanta Counseling and Recovery Center on Roswell Road was one of 16 sting operations carried out across Georgia.

A Sandy Springs medical office was a part of a Drug Enforcement Agency raid, on Tuesday.

Nearly 20 sting operations were carried out across seven Georgia counties as doctors, clinic owners and staff were arrested for the illegal distribution of oxycodone, according to a WSB-TV News report.

At the Atlanta Counseling and Recovery Center on Roswell Road, Dr. Edward Walker told WSB it was his first day of work, as DEA agents took several boxes from the office and arrested Dr. William Garrett.

Investigators describe Georgia as a “pill mill epicenter" that draws millions of dollars to clinics.

In July, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that “pill mills” or clinics that sell illegal prescription drugs, have popped up in Bartow and Cherokee Counties, and throughout Georgia, due to a crackdown in Florida. The report said parts of Florida had become know as “Oxy Express.”
