Hill, who calls the legislation pro-business, represents District 6, which includes Smyrna, and part of Sandy Springs and Buckhead.

During a Sandy Springs town hall meeting, in February, Hill said the bill is necessary when businesses ask their employees to stay on longer in the United States. “We have a lot of international business,” he explained. “And while they didn’t originate in our country, they help develop our economy. They create jobs.”

In a statement, Wednesday, Hill commended Governor Deal for signing the bill into law.

“...I believe it is a positive step in the right direction toward strengthening Georgia’s stance as a global business leader. Companies run by foreign nationals will be able to grow and prosper because of this effort to sync current federal law with state law,” Hill said.

A ceremonial signing of the bill with Gov. Deal and representatives from Georgia’s business community was held at the the Kia Motors plant in West Point, Ga. Several foreign nationals at the plant will benefit from the legislation, the statement said.
