Obama Visit Locks Up Local Traffic, Nets Millions in Fundraising

President Barack Obama attended a Midtown reception during Friday fundraising blitz that saw him raise more than $5 million in Atlanta and Chicago.

So, did you pay a reported $10,000 to meet President Barack Obama during an early Friday evening reception at the Sherwood Forest home of campaign contributor and entrepreneur Mac Wilbourn? Or were you at a dinner with the president at the Buckhead home of TV/movie producer Tyler Perry?

Or did you merely take the economical route, waiting outside on the streets for the chance to catch a glimpse of the President or maybe shake his hand?

President Obama's visit to metro Atlanta was felt well into North Fulton, Friday, with traffic jams that stretched from Ga. 400 in Sandy Springs to Buckhead, Midtown and Downtown Atlanta.

Obama cruised through the city on a Friday fundraising blitz and much like GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney did last month, the president made sure to make a Midtown stop and a Buckheadstop to collect campaign financing help.

Bloomberg Business Week reported Saturday that Obama raised more than $5 million on Friday during re-election fundraisers in Atlanta and Chicago. According to the Federal Election Commission, the president had raised $140 million for his re-election campaign through January 2012.

11Alive News reported the president told supporters outside the Wilbourn home, "Don't push, don't push," as they closed in for photos and a closer look at Obama.

The President also made a stop at the 200,000 square-foot Tyler Perry Studios where general admission into the Obama campaign's African American Leadership Council's gala began at $250 with VIP tickets reaching $10,000.

Later, 40 or so guests paid $35,800 each to have dinner with the president at Perry’s mansion in Buckhead near the Chattahoochee River and Vinings. Oprah Winfrey was one of the guests helping raise money for the Obama Victory Fund.

Overall, Obama was in Atlanta for about five-and-a-half hours. To read more about his visit, see The Atlanta Journal-Constitution article here.

So again, did you make a special effort to see/meet the president? And just for conversation, if you had the opportunity to communicate a two-to-three sentence of what was on your mind to Obama, what would that be?

Dear Obama, Do not EVER block traffic in one of the major interstates in the country EVER again! There was probably about $140 million worth of extra pollution in the air thanks to the HOUR I spend sitting in that traffic. You're cool and all, but seriously, the money I might have ever spent on your campaign is now going back into my gas tank, and I also blame Tyler Perry because the man KNOWS how bad traffic is here in Atlanta on a holiday/convention weekend. Thanks.

Dear PRESIDENT Obama, thank you for visiting our city. It was a pleasure hosting you and I hope that we showed you true southern hospitality. I was one of the many that lined the streets to catch a glimpse of you as you made your way through our town. I wish that I had the money to contribute to your campaign but I hope that my show of support will suffice. I think that you have done a phenominal job and look forward to your second term. I work for a non-profit and love my job, I spend my day helping others acquire education and tools which will help them to live a better life. Unfortunately, my job does not offer health insurance so, I am one of many Americans who are un-insured. I have 2 health conditions that are potentially life threatening. I thank you for caring enough about me to make certain that I can afford to take care of my health and receive help when I need it. Thank you and keep up the good work. And remember...there will always be those who criticize you but there is probably no way that you would be able to satisfy them because they don't want to be happy.

Yes!!! Four more years is what all the people chanted at the Westin along with myself. More than happy to divert my travel momentary to receive our President and insure his safety.
