The city of Sandy Springs will join forces with the Georgia Department of Transportation to host a public open house on proposed improvements for the Interstate 285 at Riverside Drive interchange.

The open house will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 at Sandy Springs City Hall.

No formal presentation will be held, but residents will have a chance to pose questions to representatives of GDOT about the proposed project.

The proposal includes replacing the two existing signalized intersections at each ramp at Riverside Drive with roundabouts. Each approach to the roundabout will be widened to two lanes, with one lane entering the roundabout and the other serving as the right turn lane.

A five-foot sidewalk will be added to both sides of the roadway along Riverside Drive within the limits of the project.

once again to help the cobb county residents cut thru our neighborhood which when 285 was built, riverside was to remain sacred . but cobb has more voters . an with the coming of the stadium . with people trying to avoid that exit.. we will get even more traffic . that is not native to our exit .. i feel certain this is a done deal ,the hearing to appease . like abernathy removed all the congestion . that worked great .. .... for cobb .

While I don't disagree with the idea that Cobb has been helped to the detriment of the locals here, there is traffic at this intersection and no one can contain it. We need to make it smoother. Right now its not working. I am looking forward to seeing the roundabout in action. It has proven to work better for this type of congestion.
