White House Appoints MARTA CEO to Advisory Council

The advisory council will meet four times a year and focus on enhancing cooperation between the public and private sector on infrastructure issues.

The Obama Administration has appointed Dr. Beverly A. Scott, MARTA’s General Manager and CEO, to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, a panel of experts responsible for making policy recommendations to protect and preserve the physical assets that are critical to our economy and national security.

Scott was one of five new NIAC appointees charged with offering proposals aimed at safeguarding commercial and manufacturing facilities, key information systems, dams and waterways, energy plants and transportation infrastructure.

The advisory council will meet four times a year and focus on enhancing cooperation between the public and private sector on infrastructure issues. Members of the panel include top business executives, leading academics and local government officials who report to the White House through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

“I am deeply honored to have been selected by the President to undertake this extremely important work,” said Scott, in a press statement. “It is absolutely imperative that we make prudent decisions about the future of the roads, bridges, transit systems and other key infrastructure networks that not only make us strong and keep us safe, but which will ensure we maintain a competitive advantage in an increasingly global economy.”

Scott has served as MARTA’s general manager and CEO since 2007.

The appointment to NIAC makes Scott the third high-ranking MARTA official directly involved in national infrastructure policy. Rich Krisak, assistant general manager for Rail Operations, and Georgetta Gregory, assistant general manager for Safety and Quality Assurance, both serve on the Transit Rail Advisory Committee, which assists the Federal Transit Administration with developing national safety standards for rail transit.
