Sandy Springs student Freedom Wright received a Posse Scholarship and will attend Syracuse University.

Holy Innocents' senior Freedom Wright's latest accomplishment is a four year Posse scholarship at Syracuse University.

The Posse foundation website says its program selects student leaders from public high schools and sends them in groups called Posses to some of the top colleges and universities in the country.

"I have an opportunity to be a leader on campus," said Freedom. "...The Posse scholarship means that I will never be alone. I will have 29 new friends, all of whom are amazing young men and women."

Freedom is a former foster child who started a backpack drive last summer for foster children. She was adopted shortly before age 4.

“I remember bouncing from house to house,” said Freedom, in August. “You never knew where your next meal or set of clothes were going to come from.”

In recent years, Freedom's sense of adventure led her and fellow Girl Scouts to the Chaco Canyon Archaeological Expedition in New Mexico, and a 10-day trip hiking a glacier on Mount Baker through the Girls on Ice Wilderness Science Education Program, in Seattle, Wash.
