Charly Jo, who enjoys learning for its own sake, especially enjoys Theory of Knowledge class – part of the International Baccalaureate curriculum. She has selected math teacher Ms. Arielle Pool, last year’s RICS Teacher of the Year, as her STAR teacher.

“I picked Ms. Pool because she’s an excellent teacher,” says Charly Jo. “And I really enjoy her calculus class. It’s a complex subject, and one that could become very boring with the wrong teacher. Ms. Pool makes it fun through sheer enthusiasm and love of ‘mathiness’.”

The State PAGE STAR Banquet is held in Atlanta each year to honor students and teachers.

Charly Jo has already been accepted to Georgia Tech and has plans to study engineering and Japanese. She is a Furman Scholar, a National Merit Semifinalist, participates in the Go Club (an Asian strategy board game). Last year, she walked 30 miles and raised $2,700 for the Atlanta two-day Walk for Breast Cancer.
