High School Wrestling Squad Captures Championship for 2nd Consecutive Year

Sandy Springs wrestling team will defend their state crown this weekend.

 

The Holy Innocents' Golden Bears wrestling squad captured the Area Dual championship for the second year in a row, over the weekend. The tournament was held at Holy Inncocents' Episcopal School. With the title, coach Stacey Davis’ Bears will travel to the Team Dual Wrestling State Tournament in Macon, where they will defend their crown.

HIES earned this year’s championship with convincing wins over Mount Vernon Presbyterian (81-0), Mt. Pisgah (72-6) and Commerce (48-12).

Highlighs of the final match against Commerce included pins by Liam Quigley and Rod Davis and a convincing 16-0 victory from Jason Grimes. Others with victories were Owen Penn, Grant Chastain, Will Morton and Grant Gosden.

Sim Patrick, John Hiles and Ross Waters all won by forfeit.
