Holy Innocents' girls volleyball team will go storming into postseason, next week, after capturing the area championship, Thursday night.
The Bears earned their title by avenging an earlier season loss to Atlanta International School – this time coming out on top 25-11, 29-27, 25-12.
Coach Taylor Noland’s squad will host the opening round of the playoffs, slated for Thursday with the time and opponent to be named later. “This was our best match of the season,” Noland said. “It was a collective effort – I was pleased with everybody’s attitude and all on the team contributed.”
Sophomore Sarah Joe had a double-double amassing 16 digs and 13 kills to lead the offense. Erika Cassell followed with 12 kills and Julia Wright added nine. Mary Hollis Schmidt picked up 12 digs.
“We passed well, we hit well, we executed well,” Noland summarized. “I was very pleased.” Joe and Lexii Cassell were both named to the All-Area teams for their efforts.
Holy Innocents' is now one of 24 teams left in the state.
