Holy Innocents' Teams Earn Triple Play of Victories

Boys' lacrosse wins in overtime, soccer teams sweep The Galloway School

For the second time in as many games, boys’ lacrosse team played in a contest that went into overtime. However, in this outing, the Bears were victorious in the extra session, pulling out a 7-6 win earlier this week at Darlington.

With the win, Holy Innocents’ snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 4-6.

Ryan Brenninkmeijer scored the game-winning goal in overtime to keep the Bears’ postseason hopes alive.

Holy Innocents’ scoring barrage was led by Andrew Earle, who netted two goals. Owen Penn and Walker Snellings each added a goal with an assist. Charlie Stroman and Frank Fallon scored one shot respectively.

Kenny McDowell anchored the defense and Jake Kuniansky picked up six ground balls.

The Bears travel to McIntosh today for another crucial area contest.

Last Friday, the Bears fell 12-11 in overtime to visiting Northgate.

Holy Innocents’ girls’ soccer team, ranked No.4 in the Class A state polls, improved to 10-0-1 and 5-0 in league play following Tuesday’s 2-0 win at The Galloway School.

“We are on a streak and are playing good soccer right now,” head coach Stephani Kohl said. “There is still work to be done over the next few weeks, but the girls are working hard, putting in the time and effort needed to improve both individually, and as a team.”
 
Offensively, the O’Hanlon sisters – Shannon and Megan – scored the goals with assists from Taylor Anderson and Grant Wilmer.

Holy Innocents’ 1 The Galloway School 0 (boys)

In the nightcap, the boys continued in the shutout theme, blanking The Galloway School 1-0.

John Galloway scored the team’s lone goal off of a pass from Jake Decker.

 “It wasn’t our best soccer, but we did come out of it with an area win,” said head coach Leary Barnes.  “We need a win if we want to have a chance to secure that fourth playoff spot.”

The win brought the boys' record to  5-5-1.

Both teams hosted Darlington on Thursday in a doubleheader.
