Holy Innocents' Wrestling Team Opens Season With a Win

The next event for the Sandy Springs team is Saturday at Lassiter High School.

 

The varsity wrestling squad opened up its 2012-2013 season Wednesday with a vengeance, topping Westminster 51-18 on the road.

Next up for Coach Stacey Davis’s squad is a Saturday meet at Lassiter High School. The Bears got pins from John Hiles, Ross Waters, Brendan Quigley, Jason Grimes and Grant Gosden versus the Wildcats.

Also coming out on top were Rod Davis, Owen Penn, Grant Chastain, Logan Chastain, Stephen Williams and Jake Walton. 

“It was enjoyable to see how aggressive the team wrestled,” Davis said.

HIES was also successful at both the JV and Middle School level, as Kacey Michelsen’s JV team edged the Cats 5-3. Kane Chambers, Jack Ballou and Liam Quigley all turned in decisive wins, while Chris Shaw and Alex Boor also came out on top.

 “Chris and Alex had to grit out some tough ones and they proved a lot to me in those tough matches,” Michelsen said. “We looked pretty good overall.” 

For the Middle School, Coach David Gale got wins from Henry Broms, Richard Johnston, Zach Henry, Ryan Sherk, John Gibson, Ryan Braatz and Frank Hudgins.
